We give young adults a safe space to explore what it means to become a grown, responsible adult. We help identify what’s important to them, visualize a healthy, productive future, and work with them to develop the tools to achieve both their daily goals and their big-picture goals for life. Each person has a unique concept of what a healthy and productive future looks like. We work with our young adult patients to help them discover that for themselves. Young adults having problems getting started in life – the failure to launch syndrome – and college students trying to find their way are ideally suited to benefit from our young adult IOP. The transition from adolescence to adulthood can be intimidating. For a person with a significant mental health disorder, it may feel overwhelming. We get that, one hundred percent. We’re patient, compassionate, and understanding. We help patients who feel lost find themselves. We help patients who feel scared develop the confidence and strength to move forward and face the challenges of life – and adulthood – head-on. We prioritize finding joy in life and creating a daily routine which, over time, creates the foundation for a healthy and productive future.

I will meet you with an unconditional, warm, empathetic environment to soften into while we face and process some of the things that hurt, bewilder, or confuse you the most. By doing so, the goal is to release that which is no longer yours to carry and align with the most authentic version of yourself. Our work includes making meaning of your experiences and relationships. Through our work, patterns and struggles become illuminated and change can come in.

I’ve been in private practice for almost 20 years. Something that sets me apart from a lot of other therapists is my strong commitment to having a good match between therapist and client. If I’m not the right match, I will try and help you find someone who is. I work collaboratively with my clients to form a relationship that feels supportive, while at the same time, helping to stretch their capacity in whatever area(s) they may be wanting to work on. I am warm and kind and non-judgmental, and also very honest and real.

I am a psychologist based in the San Francisco Bay Area, and I have spent the past 10 years working with folks who are excited and curious about how they can learn to best care for themselves. In general, I tend work with clients who are looking for support around their career goals, including transitioning out of or into a career, finding a better work-school-life balance, establishing or refreshing professional skills/communication, or navigating the experience of college/career integration. I have a particular passion for working with clients in "helping" industries or in training, including healthcare, healthcare administration, mental health, and teaching. I also work regularly with clients who are struggling with depression, anxiety, and other mood regulation concerns. I have experience working with students, especially as they are exploring the next phase of their life. Transitions are sometimes moments of great growth and self-discovery, and often accompanied by great pain and confusion. I think addressing both side of the coin honestly and with support can help us navigate the tough stuff with a sense of clarity and hope. I currently work in a private practice clinic, and provide talk-therapy from a variety of clinical orientations. I usually go for a somewhat down-to-Earth approach when first working with someone: taking the time to learn more about what is and isn't working in their lives, thinking collaboratively with them about what some attainable long-term goals might look like, and then allowing us to settle into the process of engaging and tracking areas of growth as our work develops. Therapy is such a unique and personal process. This should work with and for you, even if it's not always easy. I'm open to meeting you and learning more...even if we aren't a great fit. I'm also happy to support your process in finding that next-right-one. I do my best to respond to voicemails and emails within 24 hours during the work week, and follow-up on all weekend inquiries by end of business on Mondays.

I HELP YOUNG ADULTS CONSCIOUSLY GET WHAT THEY WANT (IN LIFE AND RELATIONSHIPS). Life is overwhelming. Between school, work, relationships, and technology calling for your attention at every moment, it’s extremely difficult to remain calm and grounded. We can lose our sense of purpose and passion. I've had my own struggles in life, which led me to see therapists, take countless personal growth workshops, and sit in meditation retreats. Through doing all of this work, I figured out how to rewrite the mental and emotional patterns that no longer served me. I learned how to achieve greater peace by getting out of my head and getting present in my body. Unlike other therapists who merely sit and listen, I take an active and engaged approach. You may find yourself in a guided meditation or a role-play exercise. There may be optional homework assignments. We’ll tune into exactly what you need. I’m here to support you to find your unique, confident voice.

San Jose, CA

My name is Christine Minakakis and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California. I specialize in working with adults with ADHD, anxiety, trauma, life transitions, relationship challenges and stress as well as challenges specific to immigrants or adult children of immigrants around issues of cultural identity and belonging. Whether you were diagnosed as a child, just last week, or are contemplating ADHD for the first time, our work together can help you understand, embrace, and celebrate your neurodivergent mind. If I were to define my approach to therapy in three words it would be: collaborative, solutions-focused, and supportive. I see my role as your therapist as helping you clarify your goals, values, and priorities and for me to provide the catalyst for insight and skills-building to help you achieve those goals. My clients often tell me that they feel much better even after one session! You’ll leave our first session feeling heard, supported, and cared for - and probably a little bit lighter. I’ll ask many question to begin to get to know you, but we’ll go at a pace and a depth that feels safe and comfortable for you each step of the way.

It can be intimidating to share thoughts and emotions with others. I strive to build a strong trusting relationship with my clients so that they can share without fear of judgment and we can better face the challenges going on in their lives. I work with clients to address major life transitions, family or relationship issues, self-harm, and emotion dysregulation such as depression and anxiety. Having worked extensively with ethnically- and gender-diverse populations, I enjoy helping adults explore their sense of identity and find meaningful roles in their communities. Through a culturally-sensitive lens that incorporates understanding past relationships and behavioral patterns, my goal is to help each client become aware of the obstacles hindering their personal growth and find a clear path forward in line with their own values. If you're curious about how we can work together, I invite you to contact me for a free phone consultation to answer any questions.

Evaluations can be helpful to address learning disabilities, ADHD, or psychological pieces that are impacting performance in your educational pursuits. Therapy approaches are integrative and dependent on your goals. I work from an integrative approach that looks at all aspects of you, to recognize and boost your strengths and to put in place tools and cushions for any weak areas that are present. I offer a safe space and take a nonjudgment approach in my work. After all, we have all been struck with the human condition. :)
