Therapists for college students near Georgia State University
Interesting fact: Many people come to therapy not because something is “wrong,” but because they want support, clarity, or a deeper understanding of themselves and their relationships. Therapy can be a space to slow down, take a breath, and talk things through without judgment. My approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded. I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy — but above all, I focus on creating a space where you feel safe, supported, and truly yourself.
Where do you go when you just want to be validated and heard without judgement? Do you have a supportive, safe space? Life can be tough when you don’t have an outlet and you are struggling with depression, self-esteem, transition or other unresolved issues that are getting in the way of your quality of life and desired goals. Expressing what is on your heart is fundamental to having a peace-filled life and can put you on a better path. As a therapist, I can help you identify your strengths within. I believe you are your own expert! Together we will explore how past experiences may be connected to current behaviors, feelings or beliefs. My personal practice of mindfulness allows me to be fully present and attuned, creating a judgement-free space that supports you. I realize it can be a difficult decision to contact a therapist, one that requires courage and readiness. You have already taken the first step by searching. It is equally important to find a therapist that is the right fit for you. Note: I specialize in CBT, DBT, Trauma-focused CBT, grief, anxiety management, and narrative therapy.

Everyone has an idea of what working with a therapist is like. I encourage my clients to enter our therapeutic relationship with an open mind. I want each of my clients to feel comfortable being themselves in our sessions. I emphasize to each of my clients that, while I may be direct, I am not rude, and I treat each of my clients with dignity and respect. I see a whole host of issues in my practice, however I specialize in trauma--whether that is childhood sexual abuse, current sexual assault, chronic trauma that occurred throughout your life (i.e. neglect, chaotic upbringing, etc), or one time events (natural disaster, accidents, deaths). Trauma often leads to a host of other issues, that I also work well with in my practice. Some of the issues I see alongside trauma include anxiety and depression, life transitions, relational conflict, process addictions (such as eating disorders, sex or gaming addiction), substance abuse, or family of origin issues.
Anxiety, depression, parenting, and work life balance are a few of many things that we are faced with each day, in addition to people asking us to perform despite being weighed down by those challenges. Who we are and who we want to be may not always align with who we are expected to be. Through our work together, we will explore boundaries, educational tools, and coping skills to rise to resilience and show up each day as our best self despite life’s hardships. Awareness is the foundation for change, and we will work together to enhance our personal awareness to build a more functional and peace filled existence.
Therapy can help with difficult questions: How do you find more fulfilling, life-affirming ways to scratch the itch that drives addictions and obsessions? How do you transform the perspective of being part of a social minority into a vision of personal integrity and identity? How do you come to terms with the realities of aging, including satisfying sexual expression?
Life can be hard. I get it. Especially when trying to balance the already difficult challenges of daily life and trying to be successful in higher education at the same time. Anxiety, family conflict, relationship problems, imposter syndrome, and other common problems are understandable concerns with everything today’s college student have to deal with. Adjustment to college by itself can be challenging, be it undergrad or even grad school. I believe I can help… I have a very down-to-earth, non-judgmental style and like to think that I am easy to talk to. I have over 20 years of experience in Mental Health and Higher Education. Therapeutically, I use an integrative approach that draws heavily on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Systems Theory, and is influenced by social justice frameworks. Professionally my interests include racially marginalized students, developmental concerns, family of origin concerns, relationship concerns, stress/anxiety induced academic performance issues, men’s issues, and imposter syndrome/sense of belonging. Outside of work, I consider myself a “Blerd”. I’m a serious movie/cinema buff. I’m also a fan of all things Comics and Sci-Fi/fantasy. I enjoy community service and cultural events. (Note: I can not accept current Emory University Students)
You have been trying to do the right things in your relationships but it seems like everything you do either backfires or results in the same conflict. This leaves you anxious and feeling as though there is no hope in your family, social or love life. You have the suspicion that past childhood trauma or previous feelings of abandonment are impacting your current romantic relationships. You may have explored your attachment style and want to get a handle on how to not let your past impact your future. Maybe you are someone who gets along well in your relationships - perhaps, too well because you aren’t implementing healthy boundaries. You’re drained but don’t know how to get out of the cycle because everyone now expects for you to be the “strong” friend, or adult child. Perhaps you are someone who is going through the difficult transition into separation, divorce, and or coparenting. You might even be experiencing one or any combination of the things above, and find yourself over relying on coping skills like emotional eating, drinking, using substances, etc. that are counterproductive.
Hello! I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 7 years of experience in the field. I specialize in working with students and faculty in areas of anxiety, behavioral issues, coping skills, depression, panic attacks, racial identity, relationship issues, and self-esteem. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as well as eclectic & multicultural approaches, as I believe that no two situations are exactly the same. I am an active and empathetic communicator and work to better understand clients and find solutions together. I like to describe a therapy session as a situation where I am a copilot to my client where they take on leadership on the course of our journey. As a copilot, I have the maps and directions. I am here to support my clients in making the best decisions and walking the path to achieving their goals. Success starts when you make a decision to seek help through therapy. Every session attended is a step closer to achieving goals and getting to where you need to be. Every step and every minute counts. Feel free to reach out to book a session and get insight into what this journey may look like for us! Hello and welcome! Life can feel like a lot sometimes. You might be feeling overwhelmed by academic pressure, anxiety or depression, questioning your path, navigating complicated relationships, or trying to hold it all together while everyone else seems to be thriving. College and student life can bring growth and independence, but also burnout, impostor syndrome, loneliness, and identity questions. You don’t have to navigate it alone. I specialize in working with students experiencing anxiety, depression, life transitions, and family or relationship challenges. Many of the clients I work with are untangling complex family dynamics, healing from past experiences, or learning how to set boundaries while honoring their cultural or personal values. I also support neurodiverse clients, including those with ADHD and executive functioning challenges, and understand the stress that can come from masking or feeling misunderstood in academic spaces. My approach blends cognitive-behavioral and psychodynamic therapy, meaning we’ll look at both present patterns and deeper roots. Together, we’ll build insight, strengthen coping skills, and help you develop a more supportive and realistic inner voice. Therapy with me is collaborative — we’ll reflect, challenge patterns, and even laugh when it fits. I am committed to providing affirming, culturally responsive care for diverse clients, including BIPOC, neurodiverse, and LGBTQ+ individuals. If you’re exploring identity, belonging, or navigating systems that weren’t built with you in mind, that work is welcome here. I aim to create a space where you can show up as you are — warm, supportive, and real (not drive-thru mental health care). I am currently an Associate Professional Counselor (APC), working toward full licensure under the guidance of Lauren Vaughan-D'Angelo, LPC, CPCS. I provide virtual therapy for clients across Georgia, with evening and weekend availability. My standard rate is $125, and I accept select insurance plans as well as self-pay. I offer a limited number of sliding scale spots to help keep therapy accessible and within reach. If you’re wondering whether we’re a good fit, I offer a free 15-minute phone “vibe check.”
