If you’ve been finding yourself stuck in old patterns that you cannot change, perhaps struggling with feelings of inadequacy or fear of failure, you’ve come to the right place.  The constant doubting and shaming of a strong inner critic can prevent us from entering new relationships, pursuing our interests and goals, and convince us that it’s not safe to allow anyone to get to know our true selves. Choosing to confront these themes in therapy takes courage and vulnerability, and represents the first step in a decision to prioritize your mental health. I will work with you to explore the themes that brought you to therapy, and develop the self-compassion to show up more authentically in your life.  My therapeutic style is compassionate, sometimes humorous, and client-led. I center my work around Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and the Internal Family Systems (IFS) approach, and I often pull from relational or psychodynamic modalities as well. I work with adolescents and adults of all backgrounds, and I specialize in working with those who identify as athletes or performers (musicians, actors, dancers, etc.) If you’re interested in starting therapy to address some of those old patterns or painful feelings, I hope you’ll take the time to consider if we would work well together.

I specialize in psychodynamic and psychoanalytic therapy; these approaches are particularly suited for such issues as coping with losses, reducing self-criticism, increasing relationship fulfillment and bolstering creativity. Often, I work with people whose prior therapy experience(s) was symptom-oriented or brief but who found themselves wondering if there is something more. I also often work with people in academia, such as graduate students and post-docs. I am particularly passionate about graduate student mental health and am aware of the unique stressors often faced by doctoral students, as well as the factors that make it more challenging to reach out for support. I am aware of the ways that concerns pertaining to identity, belonging and family of origin often begin to come to the fore when one finds themselves in a new environment and/or a new academic/professional endeavor.

Is it harder than you expected to be a college student? Are you feeling overwhelmed, stressed out, and anxious on most days? Things can be different. Imagine if you could navigate the stress of schoolwork, balance your time for the people and things that are important to you, make time for self-care, and quiet your mind so you can have more than a few hours of sleep each night. You deserve more than just making it through the day. I can help you figure out how to make things better. My clients describe me as supportive, nonjudgmental, and easy to talk to. I help them learn how to make sense of their past, feel grounded and confident in the present, and start creating the future they want. I specialize in helping people learn how to manage anxiety, stress, life changes, ADHD, and trauma. My practice is culturally sensitive, LGBTQIA+ affirming, and neurodiversity-affirming. Many people struggle to find balance and fulfillment in life, but things can get better. I am passionate about supporting clients in overcoming the many challenges of life through a process of developing self-compassion, identifying and building on strengths, and learning new approaches to achieve a sense of well-being and peace. I have experience working with individuals dealing with challenges of anxiety, depression, self-esteem, life transitions, social and communication challenges, gender and sexual identity, polyamory, and neurodivergence. My work is fueled by my sincere belief that everyone is doing the best they can with the tools they've got. I use a collaborative approach that integrates a person's intrinsic wisdom and lived experience with my clinical background so that together we can come up with new ideas, perspectives, and strategies. I help my clients acquire skills in reading themselves and learning how to re-adjust if things stray off-course. I hope to help clients foster self-compassion and acceptance. It is an honor to bear witness to someone else's story. I use a gentle, direct, and nonjudgmental approach involving reflection, questions, and humor. I work to help clients gain new understanding of old narratives. This may involve goal-setting, exploration of personal values, or collaboration for accountability. I invite couples, adolescents and adults to identify strengths, acknowledge challenges and develop strategies to solve a range of problems. We can explore ways to save and enhance your relationship. In the first session, I teach tools that you can use immediately to enhance your partnership, open the lines of communication and reconnect as a couple. If you are an overwhelmed parent, I can help you reach out to your teen by employing techniques that can be used in the moment. My professional experience encompasses coping with anxiety, managing chronic illness, grieving losses and achieving balance for an enriched life. My therapeutic approach is client-centered, reality-based and solution- focused. I also provide psychodynamic insight-oriented therapy if a more in depth exploration of issues is requested. My experience and training include relationship issues, crises related to life transitions, developmental stages, adolescent concerns, couples issues, PTSD, chronic illness, and loss. I am in a small group practice at Solutions for Living. We work within a relationship based model that emphasizes strengths, supports self care planning, encourages mindfulness and incorporates stress reduction. We also remain well informed with regard to evidence based techniques, proven theories and research.
