I have been a Clinical Psychologist for over 23 years and have both the educational and work experience to treat children, adolescents, adults, and families. I often build trust and rapport quickly, while instilling hope and optimism. Therapy is performed both in person and tele therapeutically, helping to ameliorate symptoms and improve overall functioning in those that I serve. Clients will tell you that I am nonjudgmental, open minded, approachable, live by Christian values and I am respectful of all people. I continue to work hard to be an ally, learning from others as they learn from me. Leaning on my extensive experience helping parents and being a parent myself, I apply structural family therapy and cognitive-behavioral therapy as we work on their parental effectiveness, active listening, behavioral management, co-parenting, and affective expression. I really enjoy and have found success in performing couples counseling and often have evening hours that make it easier for both partners to get into therapy consistently. For years, clients have felt relaxed and heard in the sessions, making continuing therapy seamless for many. Regarding diagnoses, I have helped ameliorate symptoms for clients with ADHD, Anxiety, Bipolar, Depression, GAD, PTSD, OCD, ODD, and adjustment disorders, etc.. I have some experience with substance abuse diagnoses, but only secondary as this is not my expertise. Currently, I am accepting the following insurances: Aetna, BCBS, Blue Cross Complete, BCN, McLaren, Mclaren Medicaid, Medicare, Michigan Medicaid, Molina, Multiplan, Optum, and PHP (Out-Of-Network coverage). Finally, being located near East Lansing, I am in a prime location for college students and have helped many with a broad range of issues and have had many clients state that they have had therapists in the past, but have felt more connected to, listened to, and made more progress herein.
My orientation is strength-based; I seek to create a working alliance of safety and trust. I am trained in a number of clinical methods, notably trauma-based treatment. I am non-judgmental, goal-oriented, child-centered, and I believe in the importance of making everyone I work with feel relaxed and comfortable. I work toward understanding the holistic nature of my clients, and help them understand the connection between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. As a clinical Social Worker, I have worked with children, teens, and young adults with behavior problems since 1978. For the last 20 years, I have worked in Community Mental Health settings with children, teens, families, adults. I have experience working with dual diagnosis, trauma, and a variety of other mental health presentations.

I believe in equity, equality, and justice for all humans. You well be welcomed here and safe to be yourself regardless of gender, sexuality, race, size, and relationship structure. I am an unwavering ally for the LGBTQ+ community. I approach life, and therapy, from a trauma-informed, social justice, and anti-racist lens. I believe all humans are experiencing some degree of grief and trauma, whether from the ongoing stress of the pandemic/politics, and/or from personal life stressors. Many people have been expending all of their emotional (and physical) energy on just "keeping it together" and surviving. My goal is to offer a safe space for you to slow down, breathe, and be heard. As a therapist, I have the privilege of witnessing the resiliency of the human spirit and the power of the human brain. I will walk alongside you through this journey. I will listen. I will also encourage growth, healing, and emotional development, at your pace. Many of my clients are working towards improvement in the areas of anxiety, grief, trauma, family issues, life transitions or changes, physical symptoms (often caused by emotional stress), and relationship struggles. I often work with people who describe themselves as highly sensitive, perfectionistic, people pleasers, or high achievers. I view counseling as a holistic process and take an integrative approach to working with clients.

Welcome. My name is Julia, and I’m here to support you. As a therapist, I specialize in trauma recovery and all that comes with it - depression, anxiety, grief, anger, coping (both healthy and unhealthy), and more. I have specific experience working with people battling substance abuse, and with survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. I primarily use mindfulness, parts work, DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) skills, ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) in sessions with my clients. Therapy is a lot like exercise - it’s hard to get started, it hurts while you’re doing it… and you’re always glad you did it anyway. The first step is asking for help. This is hard, but you can absolutely do it. You're already here, aren't you?
I have a passion for helping people navigate through life's challenges and build joy back into their lives. I specialize in working with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, mood instability, difficulty adjusting to life's transitions, relationship issues, and overall life dissatisfaction.

When life goes differently than anticipated you may be left grieving, feeling disconnected from life, or from yourself. You deserve to have a compassionate space to process and honor your experiences. Together, we'll explore the narratives woven through your life, understanding how past experiences continue to shape your present reality. We will reconnect you to your power, build resiliency, and learn to use your voice to live your life more authentically. With a relationship built with trust and compassion, you're invited to explore your deepest truths, express your fears, and bravely write a new story for your life. Therapy is a collaborative journey, and your voice, experiences, and perspective are central to our work together. Depending on your needs, we'll examine how family, gender, culture, and social expectations have influenced your sense of self, relationships, and aspirations. I draw from a variety of frameworks including Feminist, Narrative, and Family Systems. Reaching out is hard. If it scares you, you're not alone. You may try considering if your fear is saying "now's not the right time" or if its something more akin to "what will this change in my life". Curiosity, excitement, & the adrenaline of taking "the next step" can feel scary. Whatever you decide, trust you're right on time in your own journey.
