I’m so glad you’re exploring therapy as a resource for moving forward. I specialize in working with women of all ages through compassionate, evidence-based treatments that not only address symptoms but also explore deeper roots of anxiety, relationship struggles, perfectionism, life changes, low confidence, and grief. My approach is grounded in cognitive behavioral therapy with a holistic lens that considers the mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual aspects of who you are.

Are you feeling stuck, and unsure how to move forward? Whether it be one big event or many smaller things piling up over time, it can be hard trying to figure out where to start. Everyone could use some extra support from time to time, and it takes a lot of courage to take the first step and talking about the struggles in your life. My specialty is working with individuals in creating a supportive environment to process troubling areas and provide opportunities to improve communication skills and achieve your goals. I look forward to working alongside you as you work to achieve your goals! I provide individual counseling for adults to improve functioning and self-satisfaction. Being at a big university can be intimidating. For many years, I have been helping people gain insight into themselves to better understand their feeling. Times of transition and uncertainty can be stressful, but today there are many variables in this world which may create these big feelings. I work with clients through an interactive approach, trying to help them explore and verbalize what they are experiencing, and create a road map to help them reach their goals. I feel that we all demonstrate behaviors which we may not understand. Through exploration, I help clients "connect the dots" to help them gain insight as to why they do what they do. Once they have this understanding, it becomes more of a conscious choice as to how they wish to move forward. The client and I become a "team", trying to explore these issues together. Even though I see clients virtually, I can be seen visiting the MSU campus with my therapy dog, an Alaskan Malamute named Ichabod. We often attend on-campus events and are present for the "Out of the Darkness Walk" for the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention(AFSP). My areas of expertise are helping people who struggle with anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma and struggles with transition.

I believe that each person is an expert on their own unique experience. I view my role as being a guide in assisting people towards discovering and reaching their goals towards enhancing and enriching their lives. I use a strength-based, person-centered approach to build a strong foundation for the therapeutic relationship. I strive to provide a safe, open environment where I can meet my clients where they are at and help them on their journey. In addition to working in a private practice setting, I have provided case management and psychotherapy at two different Community Mental Health organizations, a domestic violence center, a youth shelter, a specialized facility, and a hospital. I have worked with teens with learning obstacles and behavior concerns, women who experienced sexual assault and domestic violence, young adults who experienced first episodes of psychosis, life transitions, eating disorders, and stress management, couples experiencing communication and trust issues, and adults with mental illness and co-occurring disorders.

“Nothing is so strong as gentleness, nothing so gentle as real strength.” I believe that everyone deserves a place to feel safe and seen. In my approach, I strive to create an environment of acceptance and warmth, while striking a balance of change and accountability to help you reach your goals. Doubtless, you have overcome so much on your journey, and my goal is to help you embrace and hone the strengths you already possess. I have previous experience working as an outpatient therapist at the DBT Institute of Michigan, where I practiced fully comprehensive DBT and taught DBT skills groups, with special focus on young adults and the LGBTQ+ community. Although I do not currently offer fully comprehensive DBT, the model continues to inform my practice.

I am looking forward to connecting with college-aged individuals who are beginning or continuing their therapy journey. I am pulled toward practicing therapy in this transitional phase of life because I know that young adulthood is filled with many questions about identity, friendship, self-esteem, relationships, classes, and careers. Awareness of individuality and childhood norms grows during his developmental phase, which can lead to experiencing many mental health symptoms. I believe in empowering each person to grow into the truest form of themselves and live life to the fullest. I utilize a trauma informed approach in my practice and tend to use modalities such as CBT, mindfulness, meditation, emotion-based therapy, EMDR, and IFS. I currently work at Allow Therapy Partners in the Rockford Office. I love to do in person appointments and I am also available for virtual sessions. Please reach out! I am happily accepting new clients at this time.

My approach to therapy is collaborative and conversational, in an atmosphere of trust and warmth. Each session is tailored to your individual needs and goals. There is no cookie cutter or one size fits all approach. I pull from a variety of evidence-based practices to provide you with the coping skills to meet your needs and goals. Whether it's anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, stress or any other concern, we will reach that next phase of your life. Life can be challenging and there are times when we need assistance in getting through these challenges. We'll figure out solutions, coping skills, new approaches and or enhance skills that you already have to manage and overcome the challenges. It takes a strong person to be vulnerable to reach out to a therapist, which can be an overwhelming task. I do not take this lightly. I'd love to hear from you and assist you in the next steps.

Do you feel something is missing from your life? Do you feel you have lost your way and are unsure where to go next? Do you find yourself asking: “where did I go wrong” or “what matters to me anymore?” Clients may find their usual coping skills are no longer sufficient, have unintentionally relinquished their autonomy, be stuck due to unaddressed trauma, or have never found the time to look within and get to know themselves. Sessions with me are oriented around thought-provoking questions and free association. The process is highly client-driven as anything on your mind could merit deeper exploration. My preference is always to seek out the root problems, or at least the symptoms and patterns that will grant us the most headway. This process can take time, but my goal is for you to leave therapy with enough self-assurance and resilience to be your own therapist!

People seek out a therapist for a variety of reasons-day-to-day life stressors, unhelpful thoughts, or significant life transitions. I want to provide people with a space where they can process any of these topics in a compassionate and empathetic manner. Therapy is a journey and I seek to walk this journey by your side while empowering you to explore, identify, and live the best versions of your life. Prior to working at Therapy Today, I worked at Community Mental health for nearly a decade in various roles and with various populations. I have also worked in a residential treatment facility for youth. In both roles, I provided individual and group therapy and I worked with youth and their families in navigating family dynamics and systems.

Let’s work together to create meaningful change.
