I specialize in working with men, women, teenagers, and boys (6+). If this is you, it is my goal to help you overcome the barriers and problems in your life that are keeping you from experiencing the freedom you are desiring. Often times, these problems are the result of trauma from childhood that is still unresolved. Difficulties that we experience early in life often stay with us into adulthood, creating a a myriad of problems including depression, anxiety, PTSD, addiction (sexual, drug/alcohol, work), sexual abuse, lack of self confidence, relationship issues, negative coping habits, physical or auto-immune disorders, & more. In my practice, I utilize a number of trauma informed approaches such as Attachment Focused EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Somatic Experiencing (SE), and Internal Family Systems (IFS) to help you resolve these early childhood traumas. I believe you can overcome these barriers to experience more peace, joy, and freedom in your life. You can heal. And it would be an honor for me to assist you on this journey. Send me a message for a free 20 minute consultation. (I am not working with insurance right now). See more at www.taylorhouchens.com

Are you confused and do not know what your next steps are? Do you look in the mirror and no longer recognize the face staring back at you? If so, just know that this is the first step to a new start and I look forward to us working together to assist you in finding the balance. I have a love for people who are in the unknown and stuck points. People who are uncertain of themselves or their identity. Individuals that need to feel empowered and healed. Ones who have learned to operate on autopilot in the outside world only due to avoiding healing the inside world. If this sounds like you, reach out so we can unpack it together. During our sessions, we will develop a collaborative relationship where we work on any presiding issues that you have. This will allow you to really dig deep within yourself to gain a better understanding of your self-awareness. I provide a safe, non-judgmental space for you to be your most authentic self. My therapeutic style isn’t your textbook therapist. I aim to provide some light through relatability, experience and knowledge, while we take a close look at how we can rewrite your story. My therapeutic approach is eclectic and I am to be more holistic. I will combine my personal and professional experiences to get you to a place of whole healing. Together, we will find a balance and your truest self.

I serve a diverse range of clients with mental health concerns, such as depression, anxiety, and relational issues. I also actively practice LGBTQIA+ affirmative therapy and am currently receiving training to become a WPATH Certified Gender Specialist to better serve the transgender, non-binary, and gender queer communities. I tend to meet my clients where they are based on their past personal, cultural, and societal experiences. The client and I work on cultivating mutual empathy and respect through the counselor-client relationship, developing resiliency, and acknowledging and validating cultural and societal challenges. I am here to help anyone who is struggling with current challenges in their lives, no matter how big or small they may seem. Although our past tends to dictate where we currently are in the present, we can work together in order to change the outcome of the future.

Whole Mentality, PLLC was created to support clients, and the therapists providing support, as safe as possible an experience receiving care. Whole Mentality, PLLC strives to serve people from all backgrounds, identities, orientations, ethnicities, abilities, and experiences with the respect and care we all deserve. We exist to create affirming, accessible, healing centered spaces that celebrate and value clientele and their providers. We acknowledge the impact of the people and systems around us, and how we in turn impact others. College can be one of the most exciting and overwhelming seasons of your life. You may be adjusting to being away from home, navigating new relationships, questioning your major, managing academic pressure, or quietly carrying anxiety, depression, or past trauma that hasn’t had space to heal. On the outside, it can look like everyone else is handling it just fine — but inside, you might feel stuck, exhausted, unmotivated, or unsure of who you’re becoming. If you’re in that space, you’re not alone. And you don’t have to work through it by yourself. I work with college students who are in the middle of real life transitions — identity shifts, relationship changes, academic stress, family expectations, grief, trauma, and the quiet weight of self-doubt. Depression during college often doesn’t look like “sad all the time.” It can show up as procrastination, isolation, low motivation, difficulty focusing, or feeling disconnected from the person you used to be. Trauma can show up in relationships, in trust, in sleep, or in how hard you are on yourself. Together, we slow things down. We make sense of what’s happening beneath the surface. We identify patterns that are keeping you stuck and build practical tools that help you feel more steady, confident, and grounded. My approach is collaborative and straightforward. I don’t believe in sitting back silently while you struggle to find words. We talk. We process. We challenge unhelpful thoughts. We work through emotional blocks. I integrate approaches such as CBT, trauma-informed care, and other evidence-based strategies to help you build resilience while honoring your story. My goal is not just symptom relief — it’s helping you understand yourself better so you can move forward with clarity and confidence. College is a time of growth — but growth can feel uncomfortable. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, numb, stuck, or unsure about your direction, therapy can be a space to reset and regain momentum. You deserve support as you figure out who you are and who you want to become. If you’re ready to take the next step, I invite you to Request an Initial Appointment and begin therapy. You don’t have to wait until things get worse. Let’s work together to help you regain balance, rebuild confidence, and move through this season with strength.

Life can feel like a constant push toward the next achievement, leaving you stuck in self-doubt, uncertainty, or the pressure to have it all figured out. Maybe you're questioning your path, struggling with relationships, or trying to break free from old patterns that no longer serve you. If your inner critic won’t quiet down or you feel overwhelmed by anxiety and stress, you don’t have to navigate it alone. The experiences we carry from childhood shape how we navigate relationships, cope with challenges, and see ourselves. Past wounds can create patterns that feel hard to break, but change is possible. If you feel stuck in cycles of self-doubt, struggling to set boundaries, or weighed down by family expectations, therapy can support you in discovering your true self and creating healthier patterns. I offer a space to explore these challenges, challenge limiting beliefs, and develop a stronger connection to yourself. I specialize in a psychodynamic approach with an attachment lens, helping you unpack how past experiences influence your present. Using a trauma-informed and holistic framework, I address the whole person—mind, body, and emotions. I also can incorporate brainspotting, a nontraditional but powerful tool that helps process trauma and emotional distress beyond talk therapy. Additionally, I support those adjusting to life with cancer or chronic illness, helping you navigate the emotional weight of a diagnosis, changes in identity, and the uncertainty that comes with it. My style is warm, approachable, and real. Therapy should be a place where you feel safe to be yourself—whether you’re laughing, crying, or just figuring things out. Let’s work together to build confidence, clarity, and a life that feels more like yours.

Sun Counseling and Wellness is a consortium of providers that have many years of experience working with individuals, couples, families, and groups. We are passionate about treating the WHOLE person and helping you achieve a balanced and fulfilling life. We use modern and evidence-based therapeutic techniques and are individualized and creative in our work with clients. My counseling philosophy puts the client in the driver's seat. I firmly believe you are the expert on your own concerns. I believe in the power of a person-centered approach. I believe in collaborating with my clients in order to assist them with understanding their underlying concerns while identifying and utilizing their strengths in order to accomplish their goals. Together, we'll work as a team to clarify your vision for your ideal life. Though you'll be doing the work in your own life, you can feel safe knowing you have a trusted collaborator along the way. My counseling style is warm, creative, and interactive. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. I consider myself an eclectic therapist, drawing from a number of different approaches, based on the presenting concern of the client "in front of me." I borrow heavily from Cognitive Behavioral Theory, which teaches individuals to challenge and change unhelpful cognitive distortions (e.g. thoughts, beliefs, and attitudes) and behaviors, which can leas to improved emotional regulation along with the development of effective and helpful coping strategies to address concerns and whole life wellness. I grew up here in North Carolina, hailing from Fayetteville. I obtained my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Queens University of Charlotte in 2012 where I started out working with at-risk youth in community based mental health. I now have over five years post-grad experience providing individual and group therapy. I continued providing a full range of services that helped individuals of various ages and families overcome addiction and mental health concerns along the way. Since graduating with my Masters of Social Work in 2016 from UNC Charlotte, I have worked primarily with college aged students within university counseling centers. I also enjoy supporting future generations in our mental health field by serving as an adjunct professor at UNC Charlotte since 2021. I enjoy working with tweens (12 and up), teens, young adults (18-24) to adults 24+. I celebrate you for taking the first step in this journey towards change - be it big or small. I will be here to support and empower you along the way! I look forward to working with you. Talk soon!
