Hi, I’m Rithy (pronounced as ‘Rit-Tea’). As an openly proud gay man and a first- generation Asian American (Cambodian & Hmong), I deeply recognize how mental health is woven into our identity, culture, and sense of belonging. My own journey has shown me how identity can sometimes act as a barrier to accessing therapy, whether due to stigma, cultural expectations, or a lack of representation in the field. My passion for mental wellness is rooted in the belief that people are the experts in themselves, and therapy should honor their wisdom, strengths, and lived experiences. With over six years of experience in health and human services, I’ve had the privilege of supporting individuals from a wide range of backgrounds, including members of the LGBTQIA+ community, Autistic and otherwise neurodivergent individuals, and people from diverse socioeconomic, educational, and intersectional identities. I help clients navigate stress, anxiety, trauma, life transitions, and relationship challenges. Above all, I’m committed to creating a safe, compassionate, and affirming space where people can show up fully as themselves. My intention is to meet you where you are in your mental wellness journey and build on your strengths. Together, we will create meaningful change at a pace and capacity that feels right for you. I believe healing happens in a space where you feel truly seen, heard, and valued. With that in mind, I take a holistic, person-centered approach, promoting an affirming and supportive atmosphere-especially for those exploring LGBTOIA+ identity, relationships, anxiety, and life transitions. I tailor therapy sessions to your unique needs, using modalities like Motivational Interviewing (MI), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS) Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Mindfulness, and Psychoeducation. I also use the Gottman Method to help couples strengthen their connection, improve communication, and navigate conflict with compassion. My approach is affirming and tailored to honor the unique dynamics and identities within each relationship

Kindred Art Therapy & Counseling provides creative, practical, and compassionate mental health support for college students and young adults throughout North Carolina. Our therapists specialize in ADHD, autism, anxiety, trauma, stress, identity development, life transitions, relationships, burnout, executive functioning, and the challenges of balancing school, work, relationships, and everyday life. We understand that college can bring exciting opportunities while also creating significant pressure, uncertainty, and overwhelm. Whether you are struggling with motivation, procrastination, time management, perfectionism, emotional regulation, social connection, academic stress, or simply feeling stuck, our team can help you better understand yourself and develop strategies that work with your brain and your life. Our approach combines evidence-based counseling with creative expression, art therapy, mindfulness, DBT-informed skills, and practical tools you can use outside of sessions. You do not need to be artistic to participate in or benefit from art therapy. Creativity simply offers another way to process experiences, explore emotions, gain insight, and discover new possibilities when words alone may not be enough. At Kindred, therapy is collaborative, strengths-based, and tailored to the individual. We focus not only on reducing distress, but also on helping clients build confidence, improve communication, strengthen relationships, develop self-acceptance, and create meaningful, sustainable change. We offer in-person counseling in Hendersonville, North Carolina, as well as secure telehealth appointments for college students throughout North Carolina. We welcome clients seeking a supportive, where they can show up authentically, build practical skills, and move forward with greater clarity and confidence.
