Therapists for college students near New York University
I am a licensed clinical psychologist providing psychotherapy for college students and young adults in the Pittsburgh area and throughout Pennsylvania via telehealth. Many of the students I work with are dealing with anxiety, academic pressure, relationship challenges, identity questions, and the stress of major life transitions. My approach to therapy is insight-oriented and collaborative. I integrate psychodynamic therapy with practical strategies drawn from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and mindfulness. Therapy provides a space to better understand patterns in thoughts, emotions, and relationships while developing healthier ways of responding to stress. Students often come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure how to move forward. Together we work to clarify what is happening beneath the surface, build emotional resilience, and create meaningful change in areas such as anxiety, depression, relationships, and self-confidence. I provide both in-person sessions in Carnegie, Pennsylvania and secure online therapy throughout the U.S. via PSYPACT. Prior to private practice I trained and worked full time at five counseling counseling centers in various cities.

Creative practices can often be a safer and more direct way of expressing, experiencing and understanding the most challenging emotions. I'm a creative arts therapist who has been working in New York for over fourteen years. I integrate my experience as a performer in Jazz, improvised and World music as well as my zen practice of over twenty years into a unique and effective approach to therapy. Using both verbal psychotherapy and creative art mediums in a safe and supportive environment I work to guide the therapeutic process towards achieving a client's unique goals. I specialize in working with clients with depression, anxiety, addiction, ASD, trauma and ADHD. I bring together psychodynamic depth and mindfulness — sometimes with music, sometimes without. My work is warm, exploratory, and grounded in who you actually are. No previous musical experience required. If you're curious whether this approach could work for you, I'd love to find out together. Hi! My name is Melissa Mason (she/her) and I'm a seasoned therapist with an established history of working with adolescents & young adults. I possess clinical expertise in eating disorders, anxiety, depression, trauma & other co-occurring disorders & I specialize in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) designed to reduce symptoms of trauma & PTSD. In addition to my clinical training I have been extensively trained in the use of yoga & mindfulness as a complimentary intervention. I recognize the strong connection between mind & body & work to help clients develop practices that enhance their overall wellness. My therapeutic approach is grounded in the belief that an effective therapist builds good relationships, built on mutual respect & trust. This sets the tone for the work & allows the client to feel safe enough to be vulnerable. I work with clients to develop insight into the function of their presenting problem without shame or judgement, allowing them to find alternative ways to get their needs met. I believe in taking a multidimensional approach to treatment & work collaboratively with allied professionals to ensure each patient is getting the most comprehensive care possible. I whole heartedly believe recovery from whatever you are struggling with is possible & aim to impart that hope to my clients. My approach is warm, open & non-judgmental. https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/therapists/melissa-mason-fishkill-ny/789530
Hi! I'm a Psychologist licensed in both New York and California, and I love working with college students! Please call to arrange an appointment in-office, or via computer (secure, live-stream video conferencing platform).
I partner with adolescents and adults looking to address anxiety disorders, depression, self-esteem issues, and family dynamic challenges. I take a relational and empathetic approach and work to provide a safe space for clients to discuss their thoughts and feelings without fear of judgment. The therapeutic relationship is a privilege, and I am grateful to listen and try to understand how you see the world. I received my MSW at Fordham University. I trained in a hospital setting where I conducted group/individual therapy in an acute inpatient psychiatric unit. I take a holistic approach to understanding my clients and use psychodynamic and evidence based-practices (CBT) to help clients observe patterns of thoughts and behaviors with compassion. Thank you for having the courage to ask for help. Wherever you are starting from, I am happy to meet you there. No topic is off limits.
I approach my work with clients as a collaborative process, with empathy and trust as the most important factors. I find genuine connection to be healing, and I feel fortunate to provide that for clients in supporting them through self exploration and overcoming challenges. I believe anyone can benefit from counseling, whether it’s to sort through past experiences, deal with current struggles, or work towards future goals. Taking an integrative style to therapy, I am able to adjust my approach to the unique needs of each client.

I have worked with college and graduate students for many years. Many have struggled with issues including low self esteem, anxiety, depression, eating disorders, learning disabilities, family conflict and socialization difficulties. I use a variety of therapeutic techniques ranging from traditional “talk” therapy, couples therapy, family therapy, hypnotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy and EMDR, as needed. My primary goal is always to help the student to feel better, by gaining greater insight and understanding as to better ways to address their situation.
Students who find me most helpful are often trying to figure out who they are as separate but connected to their parents and family. I especially love working with first gen and immigrant students because I am both. I have lived and worked on four continents and English is actually not my first language, so students who are navigating intercultural issues also find it easy to connect with me. In terms of the kinds of issues students work with me on, it includes: depression, anxiety, stress, trauma, relationship worries, fear of failure, and self esteem. I look forward to hearing from you!
