Therapists for college students near New York University
I'm so glad you've started this journey to improve your mental wellbeing. I know how difficult beginnings can be—I’ve worked with a number of first-time and returning therapy clients from backgrounds as diverse as New York City itself. I particularly enjoy working with LGBTQIA+ clients and people with disabilities and neurodivergences. I do my best to honor your cultural experience as we tackle some of life’s biggest challenges together: depression and anxiety, trauma and grief, chronic illness and medical issues, relationship difficulties and life transitions, and problematic drug use or other behaviors that may no longer be serving you. My own career began in worker organizing, then moved into community social work and social policy research. I have a deep appreciation for how relationships and social realities impact mental health and prioritize a relational and social change-oriented approach. Disability justice, racial justice, and gender justice are core tenets of my practice. My work is also influenced by my own experiences as a therapy client: I strive to be as transparent as possible about what we’re doing and why, so you can be a full partner on the journey and never feel left in the dark. Above all, I am person-centered: I start by learning who you are as an individual, your strengths and challenges, and then figure out which clinical approaches can work best for you. I often draw from Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) and am pursuing further training in these modalities. I very much look forward to meeting you and taking this journey together!

As a therapist I focus on developing a greater sense of awareness and presence. I believe that we all want to be understood and accepted at a deep level. I respect your courage and time investment to be willing to look within and make uncomfortable changes. I work in collaborative way and strive to create a safe, accepting and caring environment that I hope is also challenging and insightful to my clients. committed to resolving unhealthy thinking, perceptions, and behaviors. My goal is to work interactively with you to identify flawed schemas that no longer serve you to come together to build new patterns of being. I'm not the kind of therapist who nods & asks: "How do you feel about that?" My approach is integrative and I am trained in IFS, EMDR, and Psychodynamic modalities.

Hello! Intrusive and scary thoughts, over-analyzing, mental reviewing of events, repetitive behaviors, and skin-picking. These are all symptoms of anxiety. Anxiety is natural, but when severe, it can be hard to cope with — often getting in the way of things we want in our lives! My passion is to help others begin the journey of working through the anxiety, toward the life they want to have. I make use of a variety of therapeutic modalities, including ERP, ComB, ACT, and I-CBT, but I ultimately hope treatment will be a collaborative process assisting you in identifying steps to reach your goals. I strive to create a safe space in which you feel comfortable to discuss your thoughts and fears. Given that I have my own lived experience with OCD, I feel I can provide a deeper level of understanding for those living with anxiety and OCD. I, too, have been there. I understand how scary and difficult it can be. We can take that first step together.

I am all too familiar with how so many struggles boil down to the same deep needs: to be seen, supported, understood, or safe. I help people reclaim their energy from the runaway train of their thoughts and the demands of those they care about so they can live with more focus, calm, and control. That means learning to let go of "doing it right" in favor of doing what actually works for you. By separating your sense of worth from how much you give to others, you end your people-pleasing behaviors and work on setting healthy boundaries that protect your energy without the crushing weight of guilt that usually follows. I believe there’s no one right path or set agenda we’re supposed to follow. Sometimes, the best steps we take are the ones that don’t make sense to anyone else, but that feel undeniably true to us. That’s what I help my clients find: a way forward that’s grounded, self-directed, and shaped by who they are, not who they were told to be.
"We are committed to patient care through psycho education, treatment, and relapse prevention. We guide our patients every step of the way and implement various methods to help them develop new coping skills and attitudes towards all of life’s most complex matters."
I'm currently working as a postdoctoral fellow. I earned my doctoral degree in Clinical & School Psychology from Roberts Wesleyan University. I completed my pre-doctoral internship at Nebraska Mental Health Centers in Lincoln, Nebraska. At this site, I received an extensive generalist training in therapeutic practices and psychological assessments, addressing a wide array of psychopathologies and demographics. I provide therapy services from an integrative perspective, drawing primarily from Person-Centered, Attachment, Cognitive-Behavioral (CBT), Dialectical Behavior (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) therapies. This means our work together will prioritize creating a safe, empathetic space where your unique experiences are deeply understood and respected. We'll explore how early relationships and patterns might be influencing your present struggles and how to build more secure connections. Additionally, you'll learn practical skills to identify and shift unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors, manage intense emotions and improve relationships, and cultivate mindfulness, acceptance, and a commitment to living in alignment with your values, even in the face of discomfort. My goal is to tailor our approach to your specific needs, empowering you with both insight and effective strategies for lasting change and a more fulfilling life. My significant experience in community mental health uniquely equips me to address anxiety disorders, mood disorders, personality disorders, behavioral issues, parenting training, severe and persistent mental illness, and trauma across diverse child, adolescent, and adult populations. My background in the school setting further allows me to provide comprehensive wrap-around services for children and families. Last, I have done extensive research on minority stress, the impact it has on mental health in the LGBTQ+ community, and subsequent affirmative evidence-based treatments. My training has also prepared me to provide comprehensive diagnostic and psychoeducational evaluations. This helps clients gain diagnostic clarification and provides a direction for treatment services.
I am dedicated to providing compassionate care, including treatment for anxiety, depression, and past and present trauma, as well as a wide range of emotional, relational, and psychological needs. I understand that finding the right therapeutic fit is essential. I strive to create a welcoming, nonjudgmental space where clients feel comfortable and respected. I listen with care and intention, aiming to understand your unique experiences and help you feel truly heard throughout our work together. I believe that healing and growth look different for everyone, and I’m committed to providing care that honors each person’s unique experience, pace, and strengths. College is a time of real growth — and real pressure. For many students, it's also when questions about identity, mental health, and how they move through the world come into sharper focus. I work with college students who are navigating anxiety, depression, burnout, identity exploration, trauma history, or the particular exhaustion that comes with being neurodivergent in demanding academic environments. Many of the young adults I work with are autistic, ADHD, or both — and are often doing so without the scaffolding that got them through high school. Others are transgender or gender-diverse, and are figuring out who they are while managing minority stress, family dynamics, and systems that don't always make things easy. My approach is relational and collaborative. I don't follow a rigid protocol — I draw from ACT, DBT, and CBT, and I tailor what we do to who you are and what you actually need. Sessions are a place to build insight, develop real skills, and figure out how to live more fully as yourself. I'm a licensed clinical psychologist with advanced training in gender-diverse care, trauma, and neurodevelopment. Before opening my practice, I spent two years at Yale's Pediatric Gender Program and completed my doctoral internship at Yale School of Medicine. I keep my caseload focused so I can do this work with the depth it deserves. Sessions are available via telehealth across Connecticut and New York, and in person in Southington, CT — which may be convenient for students at nearby colleges and universities. I also see adolescents and teens, so referrals for younger clients are welcome. I'm happy to connect with counseling center staff to discuss fit, coordination of care, or consultation. The best way to reach me is through my website or by phone.
