Welcome! I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker located in the Watertown, NY area, though I can see any clients in NYS as I primarily conduct therapy through a secure telehealth platform. I have many years experience working with teens and young adults. My goal is to create a safe and comfortable space for anyone to be able to discuss and explore stressors related to anxiety, depression, relationship issues, school issues, and other life adjustments. I utilize a client-centered and trauma-focused approach to provide psychotherapy, including using skills of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Solution-Focused Therapy. Starting the therapeutic process can be overwhelming but I commend you in taking your first step forward in this journey. I will strive to create a warm, comfortable, and validating space for each therapy appointment together. If you have any questions, want further information, or would like to schedule a free 15 minute phone consultation, please do not hesitate to reach out! I look forward to working with you!

College is a time of real growth — and real pressure. For many students, it's also when questions about identity, mental health, and how they move through the world come into sharper focus. I work with college students who are navigating anxiety, depression, burnout, identity exploration, trauma history, or the particular exhaustion that comes with being neurodivergent in demanding academic environments. Many of the young adults I work with are autistic, ADHD, or both — and are often doing so without the scaffolding that got them through high school. Others are transgender or gender-diverse, and are figuring out who they are while managing minority stress, family dynamics, and systems that don't always make things easy. My approach is relational and collaborative. I don't follow a rigid protocol — I draw from ACT, DBT, and CBT, and I tailor what we do to who you are and what you actually need. Sessions are a place to build insight, develop real skills, and figure out how to live more fully as yourself. I'm a licensed clinical psychologist with advanced training in gender-diverse care, trauma, and neurodevelopment. Before opening my practice, I spent two years at Yale's Pediatric Gender Program and completed my doctoral internship at Yale School of Medicine. I keep my caseload focused so I can do this work with the depth it deserves. Sessions are available via telehealth across Connecticut and New York, and in person in Southington, CT — which may be convenient for students at nearby colleges and universities. I also see adolescents and teens, so referrals for younger clients are welcome. I'm happy to connect with counseling center staff to discuss fit, coordination of care, or consultation. The best way to reach me is through my website or by phone.

Welcome—I’m Dr. Holly Silva, a licensed clinical psychologist with over 20 years of experience supporting individuals through stress, transitions, and personal challenges. I work with college students and adults who seek practical tools, deeper insight, and lasting change. A significant part of my private practice involves treating employees at numerous Fortune 500 companies and individuals in high-pressure university settings, helping them manage high expectations and stress effectively. *Choosing the right therapist is essential for effective treatment. Training and experience are essential but the therapeutic connection is equally important. One of the best ways to determine if I may be the right fit for you is to read directly from those I’ve worked with. Testimonials available @ https://www.healthgrades.com/providers/holly-silva-xyldnwq Considering the importance of find the right therapist—someone you connect with and who will be available when challenges arise—it’s worth choosing a clinician you can work with not only now, but in the years ahead. This continuity allows you to avoid having to start over or retell your story each time new issues emerge. *Contact me for a complimentary 15-minute consultation @ 860-222-4211. ________________________________________ TRADITIONAL & NON-TRADITIONAL APPROACHES I offer traditional and non-traditional therapeutic approaches, tailored to how each individual processes & heals best. MOVEMENT-BASED TREATMENT: Engage in therapy while staying physically active—benefiting both mind and body. Some options include: -Walk & Talk -Hike & Talk -Golf & Talk -Dink & Talk (Pickleball) CREATIVE & EXPRESSIVE TREATMENT: Designed for individuals who process emotions most effectively through creativity and self-expression. Some options include: -Art -Music/Lyrics -Writing -Film -Gardening -Lunch/Coffee *Depending on location, the services above may be offered in person, with many also available virtually. ________________________________________ WHY A NON-TRADITIONAL APPROACH? Research shows that many people feel more comfortable when not sitting face-to-face. Nature, movement, and alternative environments often create deeper emotional openness and personal breakthroughs. ________________________________________ FLEXIBLE FORMATS -In-Person -Virtual (Computer/Mobile) -Phone ________________________________________ SPECIALITIES -Anxiety & Depression -Relationship & Interpersonal Challenges -Career & Academic Stress -Burnout & Life Transitions -Self-Esteem -Trauma, including *Sexual Abuse -The Unique Challenges of Wealth -Group Therapy ________________________________________ UNDERSTANDING THE “WHY” Sustainable change requires understanding the root of our behaviors—why we think, feel, and respond the way we do. That insight is at the core of the work we’ll do together. ________________________________________ HAPPINESS & GOAL ORIENTED GROUPS Available for: -Universities -Families & Friends ________________________________________ A PERSONAL NOTE: MY FORENSIC WORK RELATED TO SEXUAL ABUSE As a survivor of sexual abuse, I became deeply driven to understand why—why someone would inflict such harm. That question led me into forensic psychology, where I spent 10 years treating sexual offenders, individuals widely despised by society. Over time, I realized that preventing future harm required helping offenders understand the origins of their actions. Few psychologists—especially survivors who fully grasp the impact—choose this path. But I knew that without effective treatment, the cycle continues. My mission became clear: NO MORE VICTIMS. ______ Holly A. Silva, Psy.D. Licensed Clinical Psychologist CT | NY | VA 📞 860-222-4211 📧 drhollysilva@gmail.com

I've worked extensively with university and graduate students for over eight years, including completing my postdoctoral training at Cornell Health, and I'm deeply familiar with the academic, personal, and relational pressures that often accompany campus life. My approach is grounded in the psychodynamic tradition and trauma theory, with a focus on how early relationships and implicit emotional learning shape present experience. It is experiential in nature, emphasizing attention to emotional and bodily experience in the present moment. I draw from IFS, AEDP, Coherence Therapy, and Hakomi to help clients move beyond insight toward lasting emotional change.

Living with OCD or anxiety can be exhausting. The constant doubt, intrusive thoughts, avoidance and compulsions can make everyday life feel overwhelming— like it's running your life instead of you. I specialize in helping adults break free from OCD, perfectionism, and anxiety disorders. I understand how isolating these struggles can feel, and I provide a compassionate, collaborative space where you can feel understood while learning practical tools to understand anxiety and move toward what truly matters to you. If you're struggling with OCD, we’ll use Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), the gold-standard treatment for OCD. Together we'll build a concrete treatment plan, and with steady support, you’ll gradually face fears, and reduce compulsions, building confidence and learning that you can handle uncertainty without relying on rituals. To address anxiety and perfectionism, I integrate CBT and ACT techniques, so you can develop a healthier mindset and respond to difficult thoughts with more flexibility and self-compassion. Therapy is active and goal-oriented, but always grounded in warmth and respect. I’d love to support you in this process.

I approach each individual with curiosity & acceptance. I see my clients as the real experts on themselves- each in the process of navigating the world & learning as they go. I'm actively non-judgmental & find it most therapeutic to provide clients with a safe context in which to explore thoughts & feelings, gain insight, & problem solve in a lasting & empowering manner. I actively listen & offer feedback, reflection, levity, education &, depending upon the issue at hand, more directive advice. The needs of each client naturally vary. I believe it is important to meet people where they are, rather than to apply a specific modality or approach. One of my guiding principles is to "Assume Nothing." I find this allows a clients most pressing needs to unfold more naturally. One of my specialty areas is the human-animal bond. Companion animals play an important role in our individual lives and as members of the family. Issues that can be a focus of treatment: loss of a pet, pets and divorce, children and pets, illness of a pet, emotional support animals, animal advocacy.

The transition to college at any age can be challenging. Course load, social pressures and changes to friend network during this transition can cause anxiety, depression, burnout and relationship issues. These things can keep you awake at night, make it difficult to focus on your studies, lead you to engage in negative self-talk and unhealthy behaviors. I can help you develop coping strategies to help ease that transition so you can make healthy choices and achieve your educational goals.
