Therapy is not just about treating symptoms; it's a journey of reclaiming who you are beneath the survival strategies, expectations, and inherited stories. I specialize in working with people who feel disconnected from their authentic selves – people who are aching and ready to live with more alignment, clarity, and inner freedom. My role is to serve as a guide: someone who walks beside you as you navigate the terrain of healing, insight, and transformation. Whether you're working through complex trauma, military-related trauma, religious wounding, the aftermath of abuse, anxiety, depression, or the unique challenges of neurodivergence – I offer a space where ALL parts of you are welcome. My approach is deeply person-centered: I believe you are the expert of your own experience. Together, we’ll collaborate to shape a path that reflects your goals, values, and inner wisdom. Using a trauma-informed and integrative style, I draw from modalities like Jungian depth work, parts-work, and narrative reframing. I often incorporate symbol, story, and guided imagery to support deeper insight and self-connection. For those who are spiritually inclined, I also enjoy weaving in faith-based or meaning-centered exploration. As someone who is neurodivergent, I am also passionate about supporting other neurodivergent folks. I offer a shame-free, identity-affirming space where difference is not pathologized, but honored.
A solution-focused and strength-based integration of different therapeutic methods based on individual needs. Respectful, accepting, and welcoming of all ages, gender identities, presentations, sexual orientations, races, and belief systems.
Currently accepting new patients! I have experience treating a wide range of psychiatric conditions, including anxiety, depression, PTSD, bipolar disorder, and more. I am passionate about helping students find freedom in their mental health journey!
My name is Kaci Schmitt (she/her). I am happy and honored to be able to offer counseling and therapy services to children, adolescents, and adults in Portland, Oregon, and Vancouver, Washington, as well as throughout the states of Oregon and Washington for teletherapy. I truly enjoy working with clients who are looking to process various experiences, transitions, and challenges in their lives, as well as gain knowledge, trust, and compassion for themselves and deepen their capacity for mental and emotional wellness. There are times in life where we can use an empathic, nonjudgmental therapist who can be present with us as we explore our challenges and develop insight. In addition to deeply listening to you, I will hold space for your stories, history, and cultural experiences, as well as encourage you to hold compassion and curiosity for your unique challenges. I specialize in working with teens and adults with anxiety, trauma, and grief and loss. Many of the clients I work with are highly sensitive persons (HSPs) and looking for ways to cultivate wellness in their lives. I also frequently work with people in the helping fields who are experiencing burnout and exhaustion, who are ready to explore ways to process vicarious and secondary trauma and prioritize true self-care. I truly love the work I do. I began my practice because I believe that we all have the capacity to grow, heal, and transform, and that we all have insight that we can develop and learn to trust. I also believe that working through our challenges with self-compassion and understanding can help us move from pain and frustration to peace and autonomy. We are all capable of creating meaningful lives of peace. I deeply believe that we all have an innate capacity to heal and that each person is their own best resource and source of wisdom, and that we often need a little help allowing ourselves to access and trust our intuition. We all have many possible selves, and the stories we tell ourselves about who we are, who others are, and how life works can help or hurt our chances at being the self we want to be. I also believe that there must be space in therapy to process the things about life that are hard, painful, exhausting, and often heartbreaking, all while cultivating a gentler, more compassionate, resilient way of being in this world. Therapy allows us the opportunity to develop self-awareness and explore action steps that we can take to improve our wellbeing. I respect the process it takes to discover new things about ourselves and integrate what we have learned into our lives, and I encourage my clients to do so with great care for themselves. I consider it a privilege to be a collaborative partner in the healing and transformation process.
We all look for empathy, understanding, and connection in our lives and relationships. When moving through the world with a non-dominant identity, it can be difficult to find acceptance, confidence and a sense of belonging. As a biracial Chamoru woman, I have been navigating these struggles throughout my life. I hope to work with others who are looking to cultivate relationships with their core identities, while navigating the challenges related to systems of oppression. My clients often identify as people of color, LGBTQ+, disabled, and/or chronically ill, as well as part of nerd, geek or techie communities. I work best with clients who are looking to build a warm, trusting, and collaborative counseling relationship. Relationships can be powerful and I believe that healing begins with feeling that you are being genuinely heard and cared for. If you think we may be a good fit, I warmly encourage you to reach out! I provide a free consultation appointment where we can get to know each other and assess your needs. Currently, I only offer online counseling to Oregon residents.
Clients who come to my practice are going through life transitions - adjustments to school and moving, relationship concerns, and making life decisions. In addition to traditional therapy practices, I also practice (and teach) ecotherapy - a method of treatment that includes nature in the process. For some people this means we hold our sessions outdoors. For others, we include 'nature prescriptions' in their work outside of the office appointment. These methods are especially helpful for those who love the outdoors, and for clients struggling with depression and anxiety issues.

My therapeutic approach centers on the holistic well-being of individuals, with a particular focus on working with millennial female clients. My aim is to facilitate, through a strengths-based approach, your therapeutic journey towards enhanced well-being and deeper insight into your thoughts and behaviors (as well as understanding the roots of our cognitive and behavioral patterns). Hello and welcome! I received my master's degree in Social Work from Portland State University and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Oregon. In addition to my foundational training, I've received specialized training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). My approach to therapy is solution-focused, client-centered, and trauma informed, which means I prioritize ensuring that each individual feels heard, respected, and empowered throughout the therapeutic process. I specialize in addressing a range of challenges, including anxiety, depression, stress, life transitions, parenting issues, and grief. My goal is to foster a safe and supportive environment where each individual feels safe to explore their thoughts and feelings, develop coping strategies, and work towards meaningful change. College and young adulthood can be an exciting but stressful time. People may see you as focused and driven, but inside you feel more scattered and anxious than they realize. Perfectionism and an internal critic run your schedule. School, work, relationships, finding time for yourself—you feel like it's all too much, but you also worry you're not doing enough. You often say "Yes" when you want to say, "No, I can't handle one more thing!" Trying to manage ADHD, trauma, or just your day-to-day mood on top of everything feels extra exhausting. You wish you could feel balanced, confident, more at ease... maybe even kinder to yourself. I can help you navigate the "typical" aspects of young adulthood that are actually more challenging than they look. We'll focus on what's most important to you, whether that's exploring internal dynamics or learning new skills to cope with the daily tough stuff. My therapy style is interactive, collaborative, and inclusive—both tears and laughter are always welcome. I know starting therapy can feel tough, but finding a great therapist shouldn't be. To that end, I'm happy to offer you a free consultation to answer your questions, connect a bit, and see if I'm a good fit for your therapy needs. Please reach out to schedule a call!

Over-stimulation of sensitivities and the need for recognition and care of those sensitivities is so important in the world we live in today. I have worked with Neuro-divergent clients helping them to understand, address and heal the trauma of power and control, which causes so much suffering in our present world. With twenty plus years of extensive experience working with high-spectrum autism, I offer personalized therapy sessions designed to support both clients and caregivers, helping you create positive change, build stronger connections, and foster growth in your relationship with your loved one. Cognitive Bodhicitta Therapy is a course of treatment which helps my clients to unpack and process their past, letting go of their trauma, so that they may find their purpose, to build the life they wish to live. "Know Thyself", is the core tenet of my work and to love oneself is to truly know oneself. Let me help you find that purpose and self love. My journey has been that of a healer, join me in that journey and let me help you find your personal path to healing and self love.
Anxiety!, Stress!, pressure to conform and hide who you are can be so exhausting. Whether you are neurodivergent, autistic, queer, gender expansive, or experience multiple intersections of being marginalized, the last thing you need is to be told how to conform to systems of oppression that don’t value you. If you are longing to really be known and celebrated for who you are, let’s talk and work together so you have the nourishing environment in therapy where you can experience the healing and growth you desire to have a vibrant life.
To get started, complete a new patient form at www.upwellpsych.com/contact. As a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, I aim to build a treatment plan that is consistent with your goals and values through patient education and shared decision-making. I utilize evidence-based practice to guide my discussion of treatment options. While medication is one of the treatment options that I offer for management of symptoms, I believe that it is only one of the available tools, as behavioral changes, mindfulness, and lifestyle support are vitally important for sustainable well-being.
At different times in our lives, we experience hardships that may overwhelm us. These can sometimes be brought on by relationships, careers, family, or health. Or perhaps it is more of a persistent feeling you've grown accustomed to but wish there was a way of changing. The meaning we've made from life's past events serves as a template for how we will process each new experience in the future. My goal is to help facilitate an insight-oriented process of understanding why we feel the way we do and provide a source of strength and a healthy curiosity to lead to a better tomorrow.
