College and grad school can bring a lot of pressure—and for many students, that can show up in their relationship with food and their body. Between academic stress, social comparison, changing routines, and campus culture, it's common for body image concerns and eating disorder symptoms to become more intense. As an eating disorder registered dietitian, I provide compassionate, trauma-informed nutrition counseling from a Health at Every Size® (HAES®) and All Foods Fit approach. Whether you're struggling with an eating disorder, chronic dieting, body image, or simply want to feel more at peace with food, I'm here to help you build a healthier, more flexible relationship with eating and with yourself. I also lead Yoga for Embodiment and offer virtual sessions for Illinois and Oregon residents.

My name is Katon. The first thing people usually ask me about when they first meet me is about my name. My name is pronounced Cat-Tahn. I am an Iranian American. I was born in the Pacific Northwest, and I grew up in Northern California. I earned my BA in Anthropology from San Diego State University and my MA in Counseling Psychology from University of San Francisco. When not working, I am usually spending time with my spouse and my three children. I enjoy reading, cooking, traveling, volunteering, and trying out new things and new experiences. I also love listening to music and singing. I utilize an integrative approach and combine different therapeutic tools to fit the needs of an individual client, family, or couple. I believe in meeting clients where they are comfortable and in using evidence-based practice in my work with clients. I have experience working with acculturation issues, bereavement, grief (children and adults), post partum depression, and trauma. I specialize in trauma therapy, with extensive experience supporting survivors of sexual violence and other traumatic experiences. If you’ve been through something overwhelming, it can feel like a fog has settled over you, affecting every part of your life. You might find yourself overthinking, being on edge, shutting down, or feeling numb, even when you want to feel present and connected. Many people I work with feel stuck in this space and are unsure how to move forward. Together, we’ll work to understand and process your emotions, thoughts, and past experiences so they no longer hold the same power over you. I use EMDR and other approaches to help you address what’s at the core of your symptoms. Feeling safe and understood is essential to this work. We’ll move at a pace that’s manageable for you, creating a space where you can show up as you are without pressure or judgment. While this is a vulnerable process, it’s also what allows for deep, lasting healing. Therapy can help you relate to yourself with more clarity and compassion, develop new patterns, and move toward the life you want to live. If you’re ready to feel more grounded, connected, and fully yourself—and to feel more in control of your life—I invite you to reach out. We’ll start with a conversation and see if working together feels like a good fit.

Hello. I have extensive experience working with college students and the challenges they face. I worked in university counseling centers for all my career before going into private practice. My approach is primarily relational, yet integrating practical skills is integral to my philosophy of change. A therapeutic relationship is fundamental to effectively working together in therapy. Relationships with ourselves and others are the foundation of creating security and joy, for taking risks and creating success, and for becoming aligned with a set of values and ethics that bring meaning and purpose to our lives. Challenges are best met when we are in relationship and understand how to be relational across domains. I am grateful for the opportunity to join you in working towards any personal, professional, educational, or spiritual/existential goals.

What do you do when what everyone calls "the best years of your life' just aren't?? The transition from home to college is an exciting one, but one that brings with it many new experiences...leaving home (sometimes for the first time), living more independently, meeting a whole world of new people, and learning more about yourself...your strengths and weaknesses. As a college student you often face adversities such as a lack of stability, increased social and pressures, and a strong push towards academic hyper-achievement. Together with familial and social (media) pressure college students often experience changes in sleep, eating and energy patterns, irritability, a loss of interest in activities previously enjoyed, and substance abuse. Knowing when you need support, and taking the initiative to actually get that help is an important first step in figuring things out. Whether you are dealing with anxiety, depression, homesickness, finding your people or just trying to figure yourself out I hope that I can help.

I know the deep darkness of anxiety and depression. I am now happier and healthier and it is my passion to work alongside you to offer the support and guidance in your healing journey. I specialize in helping women reclaim their identity and find safety within themselves again. Using EMDR and somatic-based tools, we don't just talk about the past; we work to release it from your nervous system. In addition to EMDR, I integrate somatic-based practices, including gentle yoga and mindfulness techniques, when appropriate. By incorporating body-based awareness and movement, clients often experience a deeper sense of calm, grounding, and connection to themselves.

Good mental health is key to thriving in school, maintaining strong relationships, and enjoying life. While medication can be a helpful tool, you may have heard mixed stories and are wondering if it's the right choice for you. Perhaps you were diagnosed with ADHD as a child and managed fine through high school, but now you're struggling to keep up. Or maybe you're already on medication for depression or anxiety, but it no longer seems as effective. You might even be seeking a second opinion on a past diagnosis or looking for a more holistic approach with a provider who truly listens. Whatever you're facing, I’m here to help. Why choose a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)? As board-certified and licensed professionals, PMHNPs are trained to diagnose mental health conditions, provide therapy, and prescribe medication. Nursing has been the most trusted profession for 22 years running, and we are dedicated to putting our patients at the heart of everything we do. That’s why I named my clinic Centered Psychiatry—because your well-being is always our focus. You deserve personalized care from someone who takes the time to understand your story and collaborate with you on a plan that works for you. If you're ready to explore a fresh approach to mental health, let’s connect.
