Hi there, my name is Alyssa Leister! I hold a Master’s Degree in Counseling. Life is full of constant change, challenges, and unexpected obstacles, and I know how overwhelming it can feel when those moments arise. I’m deeply passionate about supporting clients through these difficult times, offering guidance and understanding as we navigate life’s complexities together. I want you to know that you don’t have to walk it alone. I understand that stepping into counseling can feel vulnerable, but my goal is to help you see how transformative this journey can be by working to create a safe and open space for clients to explore their thoughts, feelings, and emotions. My approach is rooted in authenticity, and I believe in the power of curiosity to spark meaningful change. As we work together, I’ll support you in uncovering your inner resilience, building practical skills to cope with life’s challenges, and developing the tools necessary to move forward. My aim is not just to help you heal but to empower you to live a life filled with purpose, joy, and fulfillment. Whatever you’re navigating, I’m here to walk alongside you every step of the way. Together, we’ll build a foundation of strength, hope, and growth. Ready when you are!
The stress, over thinking, and lack of motivation have taken over even the simplest of tasks anymore. Life gets too busy and you are constantly rushing around. It seems like other people have figured it out and you are alone. You are constantly worrying with thoughts just spinning in your head about work, family, and friends. This isn’t how being an adult was supposed to be. Your life really isn’t "that bad" so why is it so hard for you to get things done or be happy? You dream of a simpler life. An easier life where you are able to complete the things that need to be done without feeling overwhelmed. You remember a time when you had a busy schedule with work, friends, family, school and were able to keep up with everything, so why can’t you do more now? You want to feel happy again and enjoy the simple things. You are an expert on your life but I bring my passion and experience to guide the process and help you create the life you want. It is possible and together we will find the way, you aren't alone or misunderstood anymore. I use HIPAA compliant systems. Visit my website for more information and schedule a consultation to begin.
Do you experience hypervigilance? panic? overwhelm? avoidance? unexplained physical symptoms? Many of my clients didn't realize that their symptoms of anxiety, depression, chronic pain, and relationship struggles stem from trauma. Trauma isn't just something soldiers experience — it encompasses so many different life experiences. I use EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) to get at the root of your symptoms, rather than putting a bandaid on them for a temporary fix. I'm trained in EMDR 2.0 and the Four Blinks Flash technique, and I use advanced EMDR software to work effectively with clients online. I also offer Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) for clients ready to go deeper when talk therapy has reached its limits, along with Internal Family Systems (IFS) and ADHD-informed therapy. I've worked extensively with people in the LGBTQ+ community. If you're interested in working together, reach out to schedule a free 15-minute consultation — we can decide if we're a good fit. You are making an amazing and brave step in your healing journey!
I am a licensed clinical social worker with nearly a decade of experience as a therapist. I specialize in treatment of complex trauma and PTSD, with Level I and Level II EMDR training. Several years ago I also completed an advanced EMDR training in somatic reprocessing, and I use awareness of the mind/body connection in much of my therapeutic treatment. Additionally, I have a great deal of experience and training in DBT and CBT, as well as trauma-focused play interventions for children. I also use these interventions to work with anxiety, mood disorders, and OCD, and have experience treating PANS and PANDAS. I have a particular passion for working with the LGBTA+ population, and offer a focus on the traumatic nature of oppression in my work. I can help transgender clients navigate medical and social transition, as well as write surgery letters. Two years ago I completed certification through the International Transgender Certification Association. I provide a warm and inviting environment where no one is judged, and everyone is free to heal and explore themselves in their own time.

The stories we believe about ourselves are essential, and yet, they are stories we are often unaware of. You may have decided to seek treatment because you (or someone in your life) noticed something about you or how you live in the world that has been difficult, like feeling disappointed in yourself or others, and this may have impacted things like your schoolwork or your relationships. Whatever the difficulties are, these are themes in your story -- we would work together to make sense of them, and see what we can do about them. The possibilities may include things like psychotherapy (talk therapy) or medications, both of which are treatment options I offer in my psychiatry practice. Because I think it is essential to treat you as a whole person, I am only accepting new patients who are interested in psychotherapy (typically at least weekly), either with me in my practice, or with a therapist with whom I have a working relationship. As a physician (medical doctor) specialized in psychiatry, I draw on years of dedicated training for your treatment; qualifying as a psychiatrist entails, after completion of a bachelor's degree, eight years of full-time medical education, including six years of supervised, direct patient care in a variety of treatment settings.
