Our practice uses a relational approach in addressing many concerns facing clients. We are trained to understand the transitional challenges that college students face, as well as family and relational dynamics that may influence how we feel, think and function. Learning to set boundaries to lessen overwhelm, alter high expectations of self, and improve our self worth and identity is an area of consideration in which we can provide guidance and support. I believe that the therapeutic relationship, the relationship between the therapist and the client, is the cornerstone of therapy and is an essential tool in working through interpersonal issues. I would provide a warm and safe environment in which to collaboratively address your concerns. Therapy would entail learning skills to more effectively cope with your stressors and exploring your understanding of yourself and underlying causes of your difficulties in order to enhance your quality of life. While this process can be challenging, it can also be meaningful and rewarding. I have experience working in community and academic settings with diverse adult populations experiencing a wide array of problems.

Whether you're navigating relationship challenges, major life transitions, trauma, anxiety, or depression, I’m glad you’re here seeking support. Rather than focusing on happiness as a fixed goal, I help clients explore what fulfillment means in the context of their lives. Fulfillment allows space for the full range of emotional experiences supports a more honest, grounded way of engaging with yourself and the world. ClinicalApproach I bring a systems-oriented lens to our work together, considering how our early relationships and life experiences shape our current sense of self, the way we connect with others, and how we move through the world. My integrative approach draws from several evidence-based modalities including: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT); Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT); and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) But above all, I'm client-centered. I've seen what happens when therapy gets too rigid or robotic, when the humanity of it gets lost. That’s not what you’ll get with me. I’ll use evidence-based methods and also meet you with honesty, care, and a good sense of when to push and when to pause.
My name is Kaylee Van Gent, I am a Licensed Associate Professional Counselor (LAPC) providing psychotherapy services virtually in Pennsylvania. I have over 4 years of clinical experience across outpatient, residential, and school-based settings. In my clinical work, I often partner with clients experiencing anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), depression, trauma, and identity and adjustment issues. While I see many different clients, I specialize in working with LGBTQ+ clients, those who are navigating complex trauma, and those who have experienced religious/spiritual abuse or manipulation. I work with older adolescents, adults, and older adults. Therapy with me is grounded in deep empathy, creativity, curiosity, and a belief that meaningful change happens through safe, collaborative relationships. My goal is to help clients build insight, develop effective coping strategies, and move toward meaningful, values-aligned change. Alongside my clinical work, I am also a doctoral student in the Counselor Education and Supervision program at Pennsylvania State University where I am pursuing research interests of social justice and systemic change in counseling and religious/spiritual abuse. Through teaching, research, and practice, I value providing therapy that is affirming, trauma-informed, and responsive to each client’s unique culture, context, and experiences. Outside of work, I am a curious, playful, and nature-loving person. I love hiking with my partner, reading, and having a good laugh.
