Hi, I’m Courtney Winston and I believe everyone has a story that deserves to be heard and honored. My passion for mental health comes from witnessing the struggles of people close to me and realizing how powerful it can be to get to the root of what someone is going through. I’m here to help you explore your values, uncover your strengths, and create meaningful, lasting change. In sessions, I focus on building a safe, nonjudgmental space where you feel supported and empowered. I meet you where you are, helping you clarify your goals and guiding you to make progress at your own pace to help you better understand the connection between your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, and to build greater self-awareness and accountability. I believe in your ability to grow, heal, and move forward—and I’d be honored to support you on that journey. I am paneled with many insurances other than those listed below. I am licensed in North Carolina, Texas, Virginia, South Carolina, and Nebraska. As a Marriage and Family Therapist, I believe in the transformative power of empathy, understanding, and connection. I see therapy as a collaborative journey where both the therapist and clients work together to uncover and address underlying issues. I believe that every individual and relationship has the capacity for growth and change when given the right tools and support. I hold that a strong therapeutic alliance—built on trust and openness—is essential for effective therapy. My approach centers on the belief that understanding and improving relationship dynamics can lead to profound personal and relational growth. I am committed to helping clients develop healthier communication patterns, navigate life transitions, and enhance their emotional resilience. By fostering a supportive environment, I aim to empower clients to build meaningful, fulfilling relationships and lead balanced, enriched lives.
Welcome! My name is "Dr. Ed." I'm a Ph.D.-Diplomate in Clinical Social Work from the University of Houston and Governors State. In our multicultural world, therapy is a safe place to respect your values and honor your strengths! √ I'm 4.6 rated with 60+ reviews on HealthGrades, United Health, Aetna and Cigna. My treatment philosophy is built on respect and appreciation of the dignity for each person I work with. Let me emphasize this one more time, YOU don't have to settle for a poor self-image from negative experiences nor settle with poor relationships with your family, spouse, kids and yourself. Let's figure it out..together.. My therapy specialty is working with adults, couples, families, and pre-teens who are dealing with feelings of rejection, grief, and situation anxiousness-including balancing family and work-life stressors. I greatly appreciate listening to the adult male voice in relationships and families. Learning ways to bridge the gap in communication styles between men and women, parents and children, is important work! Prior to becoming a therapist, I was a core faculty member for nine years at Capella University-graduate and doctoral programs in Social Work and Public Service Leadership. Outside of work, Dr. Ed enjoys traveling to Barbados, Cancun, Houston Rodeo, is active in the KAY fraternity, and is an Astros and Cubs fan. Do you feel disconnected from yourself, unsure of who you truly are beneath the roles you play? Do you find yourself avoiding difficult emotions, turning to substances, food, or other behaviors to cope? Are your relationships strained by unspoken needs, patterns of self-sabotage, or difficulty with vulnerability? You’re not alone. Healing begins when you stop running from yourself and start facing what’s been buried. I believe in the transformative power of connection—with yourself, your body, and others. Together, we can uncover the strength and clarity already within you. I have worked in addiction and mental health treatment centers for four years. This experience has taught me to help others connect with emotional wounds and build coping skills that empower authenticity. Through somatic work, cognitive reframing, and deep exploration, I support you in finding your strength, values, and voice. I believe in the power of baby steps and authenticity. Healing isn’t easy and may feel impossible, but I’m here to support you every step of the way. I’d love to get to know you, understand your story, and learn what brings you to therapy. Everyone’s journey is unique, and together, we can create a path toward healing that feels right for you.
Welcome! I work with people who may be struggling with a variety of different challenges from grieving the loss of a pet, struggling with thoughts of the future in a world that seems to be falling apart, and people struggling with gender identity and sexual orientation. I offer an LGBTQ and neurodivergent-affirming environment. While I pull from gold standard techniques such as EMDR, Brainspotting, ACT, DBT, and CBT-I to address a variety of issues and symptoms, I take a collaborative approach to tailor our work together to best fit your needs. I have over ten years of experience in the mental health field both as a researcher and as a psychotherapist. The first five years of my career was spent at the Montrose Center in Houston, Texas where I worked with the LGBTQ community as a psychotherapist and a case manager. This valuable experience urged me to take my career further by going into private practice where I am honored to work with members of the LGBTQ community as well as those outside it.

Are you done suffering from conforming pressures all around and ready to begin a new journey, healing from hurts and pioneering on a brand new path? Lets see if we are a great fit to work together!
