You came to college with a plan. Maybe you're the first in your family to be here, or the one everyone back home is counting on. You're supposed to have it together. But instead you're exhausted, overwhelmed, and quietly wondering if you even belong here. The pressure to perform is relentless. The anxiety before exams, presentations, or even just speaking up in class. The feeling that everyone else got a manual you never received. You push harder, achieve more, and still feel empty or behind. And underneath all of that hustle, there are older, heavier things: childhood wounds, family expectations, generational patterns, anger, and the grief of watching violence hit people who look like you, love like you, pray like you. That's not weakness. That's not a disorder. That's a lot to carry, and you've been carrying it alone for too long. This is a space for college students who are done pretending they're fine. Whether you're dealing with performance anxiety, depression, burnout, a hard time fitting in, or just a deep sense of not being enough, you don't have to keep grinding through it. Using body and mind approaches, we work with how stress and trauma live in your nervous system, not just your thoughts. We also dig into the stories you tell yourself, where they came from, and whether they're actually yours to carry. We work with college students across North Carolina and specialize in multicultural counseling for BIPOC individuals, first and second generation immigrants, and people from SWANA (South West Asian and North African) communities, including Arabs, North Africans, and people from the Gulf region. We understand what it means to navigate life between worlds, and we meet you exactly where you are. You've carried enough alone. Reach out for a free consultation. We'd love to meet you.
Life can feel overwhelming at times — but you don’t have to face it alone. At Intentional Purpose Counseling PLLC, we create a safe, nonjudgmental space to help you unpack life’s challenges, rediscover your strengths, and cultivate calm, confidence, and connection in your daily life. We are currently accepting self-pay clients (with a sliding scale available for those who qualify) and in-network with BCBS, Cigna, Aetna, and UnitedHealthcare. You can also find and schedule with us conveniently through Headway.
Navigating the transition to college and early adulthood can be exciting, but it can also be incredibly stressful and overwhelming. Are you struggling to manage the pressures of academics, relationships, or being away from home? Do you find yourself constantly worrying, feeling down, or having difficulty sleeping? Are you experiencing conflict with parents, peers, or even professors? Are you questioning whether college is the right path for you, or if you're pursuing it due to external pressure? Everyone experiences some level of stress during this time, but if these feelings are persistent and impacting your daily life, or causing significant relationship strain, it might be helpful to talk to someone. Counseling provides a safe space to explore these challenges, develop coping strategies, and clarify your own goals and values. Our virtual sessions offer the flexibility to meet before, between, or after classes, making it easier than ever to prioritize your mental well-being as you navigate this new chapter. After trauma, we reach for whatever coping skill is closest in order to survive. We may turn to substances, self-harm, intellectualizing, perfectionism, etc. This helps us soothe, distract, and numb from feelings of shame, guilt, anger and fear. Still, our unprocessed emotions can overwhelm–morphing into anxiety, depression, rage, dissociation, or hyper-vigilance. However, this only represents a part of us and our experiences. We contain creativity, empathy, resilience, & intuition. Through our strengths, we increase our tolerance, release survival skills that no longer serve us, and return to our most liberated and aligned self. I specialize in addiction, anxiety, trauma, marriage counseling, and depression. I am also trained in Brainspotting, a trauma treatment, which involves less invasive talk therapy & quicker response times for healing, when compared to EMDR. For marriage & couples counseling, I am trained in the Gottman Method. We all have an innate and intuitive ability to heal and transform, yet healing is not a destination. Rather, it is a continual process that we may deviate from and rediscover repeatedly throughout our lifetime. I am here to sit with you in your pain, your recovery, your joy and everywhere in between. Please reach out. You are worthy of support.
Our approaches include strength based therapy, cognitive behavior therapies, creative approaches, EMDR, motivational interviewing, animal assisted interventions, and person centered approaches. We have experiences with young adults and adults with anxiety, depression, panic disorder, substance use, gender identity, grief, relationship issues, life transitions, and dual diagnosis.
In addition to my private practice, I also work at a university counseling center, which keeps me in tune and up to date on what today's college students are experiencing. I've worked with both traditional and non-traditional students throughout my career and enjoy helping students get back on their path to success. Many of the students I help are struggling with anxiety, depression, academic concerns, or family/relationship issues. My clients enjoy having a non-biased person to support them as they become more independent and explore who they are as a person. College is an exciting time, but can also be stressful and overwhelming. As human beings, we don't like change, and going to college means a lot of changes happening at once...again, exciting, but also scary! I help my clients learn the skills needed to feel capable, resilient, an ultimately successful in both their academic and personal life.
Life asks a lot from us. How can we thrive in our lives, work and relationships in fulfilling, whole-hearted ways? We all occasionally feel blocked or frustrated and benefit from support that can connect us with our potential. You are deserving of purpose, meaning and joy in your life and we will work together to discover what your unique needs are so that you can live in closer alignment with your goals and values. I specialize in serving adults who are experiencing anxiety, depression, challenging life transitions, domestic and/or sexual violence as well as substance use and addiction. It is my sincere hope that you will leave our sessions feeling more inspired through greater personal insight and tangible skills that can be applied in your daily life. Therapy is not a mysterious process where the counselor holds The Answers. Therapy is a collaboration between a therapist and client who both show up and do the work. I believe firmly in the axiom “no judgements during adjustments” and offer a safe, non-judgmental space for you to explore new ways of thinking, living and doing the deep, meaningful work to get you where you’d like to be. Please call or email me for a free 30-minute consultation so that I can answer any questions you have about this practice.

College can bring pressure from every direction—academics, relationships, family expectations, finances, identity, and uncertainty about what comes next. You may be doing everything expected of you while privately feeling anxious, overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure of yourself. I work well with students who want to understand the patterns shaping their lives, strengthen their boundaries, improve their relationships, and make decisions with greater confidence. I also support students navigating cultural identity, major life transitions, family conflict, burnout, grief, and the challenges of living or studying away from home. My approach is collaborative, culturally responsive, and practical. We will look at your experiences within the context of your relationships, history, culture, responsibilities, and current environment. Sessions provide space to explore what is happening beneath the surface while developing tools you can use in your everyday life. My goal is to help you build greater clarity, self-trust, and a stronger sense of direction.
