Hi, I’m Elaina, a bilingual (Spanish/English), trauma-informed therapist who works virtually with college students navigating anxiety, family stress, cultural identity, and past trauma. I’m here for students who may feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck trying to manage school, relationships, and expectations, especially first-gen students, students of color, LGBTQIA+ students, and those who carry the weight of childhood or generational trauma. You don’t have to sort through it all alone. My approach is gentle, supportive, and empowering. We’ll go at your pace and focus on what matters most to you, whether that’s setting boundaries, healing from the past, or finding your voice. Therapy with me is a space where all parts of you are welcome.
Welcome to my practice! If psychiatric symptoms are causing you pain and limiting your life, I want to help. I offer telepsychiatric medication management services to adult patients (ages 18 years+) who reside in California, Illinois, Massachusetts, New York, Oregon, and Washington state. Specialties include treating members of Sexual and Gender Minorities / 2SLGBTQIA+, emerging/young adult populations, creative professionals, and educators. I bring to clinic an abiding commitment to offering my patients kind, affirming, personalized psychiatric care. I do not prescribe controlled substances. The practice is in-network with select insurance companies in CA, IL, MA, NY, OR, and WA. I also accept self-pay patients from CA, IL, MA, NY, OR, and WA who may be able to collect reimbursement from their insurance companies, if they have out-of-network benefits.
We aim to provide the best possible telepsychiatric care (therapy and medication management) for our patients, wherever they are. We know that self-care is a journey, and the first step towards a fulfilling life begins with recognizing a need to get help. With the advancements in technology, we are able to provide care that is the most convenient for you. That is what makes our mission possible. We strive everyday to ensure that our patients are able to live their best lives.
I specialize in supporting college students who are navigating the many transitions that come with this stage of life. Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed by academic pressure, questioning your direction, adjusting to new environments, or trying to balance relationships, you don’t have to figure it out alone. My approach is warm, collaborative, and practical. I aim to create a space where you can speak openly without feeling judged or misunderstood. Together, we’ll explore what’s going on in your life, build tools to manage stress and emotions, and help you move toward the version of yourself and your life that feels most authentic and meaningful. I’m especially passionate about working with college students because I remember how complex and overwhelming that time can be. My goal is to be the kind of therapist I wish I had when I was in college; someone who truly listens, understands the challenges of transitional life experiences, and offers steady support while you figure things out at your own pace. During your life, you may experience difficult periods of adjustment related to major life changes and/or losses, difficulty in relationships, and/or cultural/social differences in environmental contexts. These periods in your life may lead to or be related to general difficulty coping with life circumstance, depression, anxiety, and other mental health issues. I provide a holistic approach to working with clients striving to understand them from an intrapsychic, interpersonal, and sociocultural perspective. In working with you, I endeavor to understand how your personality, relationships, and sociocultural identities and environmental contexts interact to affect your psychological functioning and wellbeing. Personal development through counseling/psychotherapy comes from feeling secure in a relational context to explore one's issues. Primary to this process is the establishment of a nurturing therapeutic relationship/alliance. In establishing a safe environment, I will assist you in experiencing more satisfying attitudes, relationships, and feeling more empowered. A major aspect of my work involves understanding how racial, ethnic, and cultural diversity affects one's psychosocial functioning. Understanding your sociocultural identities and how they inform and affect your life assists me in determining what interventions and techniques will be most appropriate for you.
I work with people feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or ready for change—people who want to feel confident, connected, and in control of their lives. Many of my clients are seeking support for depression, anxiety, eating disorders, body image concerns, relationship challenges, or low self-esteem. My goal is to help you move toward a healthier, fulfilling version of yourself. Many of my patients are readers. When desired, I suggest novels that offer insight, perspectives, or emotional connections to themes we’re exploring in therapy. This creates a meaningful and creative pathway to growth. Curious? Follow The Character's Toolkit on IG Therapy with me is a collaborative process. We’ll start by identifying your strengths and any patterns—whether in thinking, behavior, or relationships—that may be holding you back. From there, we’ll use evidence-based strategies to build healthier, more sustainable ways of coping and engaging with life. I see patients online in New York and Virginia, and in person or online in Missouri. I've been in private practice for 10+ years. Before that, I worked in inpatient, PHP, and IOP settings. Therapy is most effective when it is collaborative, grounded in reality, and focused on meaningful progress. I bring an integrative, strengths-based, and goal-oriented approach to our work together. Whether you are navigating a specific life transition, managing chronic stress, or working through deeper emotional hurdles, my aim is to help you uncover what is working, identify what needs to change, and build a practical roadmap to get there. My Approach Strengths-Based & Collaborative: We will focus heavily on identifying and leveraging your natural strengths and resiliencies—finding the things you are already good at and using them as a foundation for growth. Solution-Focused & Goal-Oriented: We work together to figure out what needs to change, why those changes matter to you, and how to make them happen in a sustainable way. Flexible & Balanced: Therapy should meet you where you are. I am comfortable giving you the time and space needed to develop insight, motivation, and clear goals. At the same time, I am not afraid to gently encourage change, support healthy risk-taking, and help hold you accountable to your own aspirations. Contextual & Systemic: Problems do not occur in a vacuum. Your experiences are shaped by your relationships, your environment, and society at large—especially where systemic oppression or social barriers are present. Background & Experience With over two decades of clinical experience across a wide array of backgrounds and challenges, I have spent my career supporting individuals through profound adversity. Crisis & Complex Care: Extensive background working with individuals experiencing extreme poverty, homelessness, and severe mental health conditions. Veterans Care: Currently serving as a Suicide Prevention Coordinator, providing specialized, compassionate care to Veterans at risk. Core Beliefs: I firmly believe that people can change and grow, and that therapy can and should be time-limited. You do not have to carry your challenges alone, and healing happens best when we look at the whole person within their world.

On the outside, it might look like you’re keeping things together—classes, sports, work, relationships—but inside you may feel overwhelmed, stuck, or like something just isn’t feeling right. I work with college students and student-athletes who are navigating stress, anxiety, grief, and past experiences that continue to show up in the present. In therapy, we slow things down, make sense of what you’re carrying, and find practical ways to feel more grounded and steady again. A lot of my work focuses on grief, loss, and unresolved experiences, using EMDR to help process what feels stuck alongside strategies for structure, motivation, and balance. You don’t need the right words or a clear explanation to start—just a sense that something has been weighing on you. Therapy can be a space to sort through it and move forward at a pace that feels manageable. Availability is flexible in evenings and on weekends.
