Welcome to Amethyst Counseling Services I'm Rachel Lorenzo-Ramirez, a bilingual Licensed Mental Health Counselor offering virtual therapy for students and young adults across New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts. College life can be exciting—and overwhelming. Whether you’re navigating academic stress, anxiety, imposter syndrome, relationship challenges, cultural or family pressures, or questions about your identity, therapy can be a space to sort through it all with support and intention. I specialize in helping students process what’s beneath the surface using evidence-based approaches like CBT and EMDR. Together, we’ll work on building emotional clarity, self-compassion, and practical coping skills so you can feel more grounded and confident—on and off campus. This is a space where you don’t have to have it all figured out. You just have to be open to the process of growing through what you're going through.
Let’s be honest, going to therapy can be a little intimidating. I know what you are thinking, “what would speaking to a shrink do for me? I have so much on my mind, it will take more than a few sessions to unleash everything.” Well…I got time AND passion. I believe that as human beings living in our present society, we are conditioned to put our needs aside and we frequently forget how to take care of ourselves. As your therapist, I am strongly devoted to assisting you in tackling life challenges, managing problems, and coming out stronger than ever because YOU are capable. My approach to therapy is to use a strength based perspective, CBT and create an unapologetic space for my client. I want my client to feel they don't need to sugar coat anything in sessions because I truly believe transparency will open up my client's full potential to self-discovery and personal growth. I know taking this next step is scary AND brave. Imagine yourself opening up to possibilities you only dreamt of and finally being in control over your life and happiness. Let's work together to build that dream by tackling those negative thought distortions and create new perspectives in order to create your new reality.
I bring a non-judgmental approach to each session, and I meet clients where they are emotionally and spiritually. When working through the struggles adolescents and individuals may be experiencing, I use a supportive and holistic approach. In the course of our time together, we will process the impact of negative behaviors, and we will restore and set goals. Together we will work on growing your sense of self and meaning. While every therapeutic relationship has unique challenges, the common thread to all affirmative relationships is the presence of empathy, compassion, and sincere caring and understanding. "Have patience with all things, but first with yourself. Never confuse your mistakes with your value as a human being. You’re perfectly valuable, creative worthwhile person simply because you exist. And no amount of triumphs and tribulations can ever change that. Unconditional Self-Acceptance is the core of a peaceful mind.” St.Francis deSales
I work with college students, young adults, and adults who are navigating anxiety, depression, life transitions, grief, and the stress that can come with school, relationships, identity, and uncertainty about the future. I’m especially passionate about supporting young adults through the often-overwhelming transition from college to the “real world” — whether that means coping with job-search stress, navigating career pressure, adjusting to new responsibilities, or trying to make sense of who you are outside of school. I also help clients process loss of identity during major life changes, such as graduating, stepping away from athletics, changing roles, or leaving behind a version of themselves that once felt familiar. I also specialize in supporting expats and individuals living abroad who may be facing loneliness, culture adjustment, and the emotional complexity of feeling caught between worlds. My approach to therapy is holistic, collaborative, and personalized. I draw from mindfulness and wellness-based strategies when helpful, and I tailor the work to each client’s goals, needs, and lived experiences. Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, disconnected, burnt out, or simply unsure of what’s next, I strive to create a space where you feel seen, supported, and empowered to grow.

I am a therapist-in-training providing sliding scale therapy under the supervision of Jessenia until May 2026. I am a first-generation Latina- I speak Spanish and English fluently. I have experience in a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic with young adults, elders, and adolescents. I am a firm believer that our identities are essential in understanding our life experiences and should be considered in a therapeutic relationship. I also consider the importance of intergenerational trauma- understanding we are carriers of past generational trauma. Along with societal barriers that directly affect our life experiences. Who we are now is influenced by our identities, life experience, and generational trauma. My approach includes the importance of identities and focuses on creating a safe, non-judgmental space. I guide with curiosity and empathy to welcome your feelings, thoughts, and life experiences. In our therapeutic relationship, I focus on understanding the interconnectedness of your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. I also explore past life experiences and recognize its influence in personality, behavior, and/or interpersonal relationships. Together, we will explore, process, and heal to overcome internal barriers.

Whether you're spiraling over every “what if,” feeling stuck in patterns that stem from the past, or feeling like you’re losing your mind trying to figure out who you are & where you’re going, we'll work through this together.
