My passion is to assist people who desire to get unstuck, be more confident, feel more relaxed, connect with others, feel less irritable, communicate better, understand their dreams and are looking for meaning and purpose in their lives. We might be a good fit if you are someone who has difficulty with boundaries and assertiveness or think of yourself as a "people pleaser." Another good fit would be if you feel that you are lacking direction in your life or feel like "something is missing" but aren't sure what it is or how to find it.

I believe all people are capable of change and growth. Deciding to come to counseling can be scary, or feel strange at first, but we were created to be in relationship with others. I come alongside my clients to help them identify areas where change is needed and we work together to find solutions in a safe space. Safe, secure relationships are where growth happens.

The clients I work best with are often carrying the weight of trauma and are seeking a more connected, empowered way of living. Whether personal, generational, or systemic, many feel stuck in patterns of anxiety, self-doubt, or disconnection from their bodies and sense of self. As a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner (SEP), I offer a holistic approach that gently supports nervous system regulation, emotional healing, and self-awareness. I also draw from mindfulness-based practices and integrate ancestral wisdom and energy work when aligned with the client’s needs. My role is to walk alongside you as you reclaim your voice, your wholeness, and your own inner wisdom.

Feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or like something just isn’t right inside—even if you can’t explain why? You’re not alone, and you don’t have to figure it out by yourself. I’m a trauma therapist who understands what it’s like to feel broken, lost, or stuck after going through tough experiences—whether that’s childhood trauma, bullying, abuse, or just the weight of everyday pressure and expectations. I’ve been there myself, and I know healing is absolutely possible. If you’re struggling with anxiety, anger, depression, PTSD, or even feeling disconnected from who you really are, I offer a safe space to unpack what’s going on—and begin to heal. I specialize in helping students like you who are trying to balance life, emotions, school, relationships, and maybe even past pain that hasn’t been fully processed yet. My approach is focused on helping you get results, not just vent. We’ll explore what matters to you—your values, goals, strengths—and figure out how to start building the life you want. I also offer energy healing and spiritual guidance if you’re open to deeper, more holistic support (but only if that resonates with you—this space is always about you, not my agenda). If you’re ready to feel supported, heard, and guided toward real change, I’m here. You don’t need to have it all figured out. You just need to take that first step.

Hello! My name is DJ Maurer (he/him), and I graduated with my master’s degree in clinical Mental Health Counseling at Eastern Oregon University. I feel deeply privileged to join you on your journey here at Align Counseling. Life can be incredibly challenging at times, and it’s not always easy to navigate those moments alone. My counseling journey began with leading grief support groups for individuals who have lost loved ones. This experience sparked my passion for helping people navigate various life stages, challenges, and identity concerns. As an LGBTQIA2S+ provider, I am committed to providing affirming, inclusive care that fosters a therapeutic environment where you can explore and express your true, authentic self. I specialize in supporting clients through anxiety, grief, trauma, and identity exploration. While I have experience working with teens, young adults, and adults, I welcome clients from all walks of life, who face a wide range of challenges. My approach is grounded in person-centered and trauma-informed principles, committed to creating a safe, trusting space where you feel heard, valued, and supported. I tailor an array of techniques to meet your unique needs, and together, we’ll work collaboratively, guided by your voice, insights, and personal goals, to chart a path toward healing that feels genuine and empowering. In my downtime, I enjoy taking advantage of all the beauty the PNW offers. Wherever you are in your journey, I am here to support you. If you feel ready to take the next step, please reach out. I look forward to connecting with you!

College is supposed to be when you figure out who you are, which is a strange task to hand someone who's also drowning in problem sets, roommate drama, and a bank account that hits zero the week before rent. If you're queer, trans, neurodivergent, disabled, fat, BIPOC, or some combination, you're doing that figuring-out with fewer road maps and more people who think your existence needs an explanation. At Soma Roots Therapy, we work with students navigating identity, family expectations, body image, burnout, and the specific loneliness of being surrounded by people and still feeling unseen. Our approach pays attention to what's happening in your body, not just your thought spirals, and it starts from the belief that your struggles usually aren't a personal failing — they're a reasonable response to unreasonable systems (capitalism, diet culture, whichever one's currently ruining your week). We're LGBTQIA2S+ affirming, neurodivergent-affirming, and fat-affirming as a baseline, not a specialty. No pronoun explanations required. No convincing us your body is fine as it is. We show up, we listen, and yes, we'll probably crack a joke somewhere in there — healing doesn't have to be humorless, even when it's hard. We see clients by telehealth across Oregon and Washington, so therapy can happen between classes instead of instead of them. Check out our website to see which insurances we accept and to schedule your Free 20-minute Consult directly from our website to see if we might be a good fit for you.

With my client-centered focus, I work hard to build a therapeutic relationship that creates a safe, comfortable, and non-judgmental space for clients to present themselves to their fullest potential. My priority is to guide and support each client in their journey to develop their sense of self-love, confidence, and peace of mind and body. Some of the issues I work with are relationship issues, academic stress, ADHD, parenting support, parent-child relationship issues, peer conflict, family conflict, anxiety, depression, cultural adjustment, life transitions, coping skills and general stress. I have extensive experience working with high-risk children, teens, and families experiencing a diverse range of emotional and behavioral problems at home and school, and symptoms resulting from disrupted attachment. I also have experience working with clients from minority cultures and marginalized groups. Growing up in another country, having knowledge and experience around a diversity of cultures allows me to be more open-minded, compassionate, and humble in supporting clients through a more holistic lens. It is never easy to take the first step, know that my goal in the therapeutic process is to create a safe and supportive environment for you.

You might be feeling stuck: disconnected from yourself, your relationships, or the kind of life you want to be living. Maybe you're navigating stress from high expectations or caregiving roles, or struggling to feel close to others even when you crave connection. You may carry pain from earlier experiences or feel like you've had to hide parts of yourself just to get by. Whatever brings you here, you're considering the brave and vulnerable work of change, and that is huge. I work with people who are ready to feel more grounded, more connected, and more like themselves. I bring a particular focus on working with LGBTQ+ and multiply marginalized clients navigating the emotional toll of invisibility, hypervisibility, or living in systems not built for them, but enjoy working with clients of all identities who may be feeling disconnected, overwhelmed, or stuck in patterns that no longer serve them. I am neurodiversity-affirming, use an attachment-based lens, and provide letters for gender-affirming medical services. You don’t have to go through this alone, and you don’t have to explain your existence before we can get to the heart of things. In addition to individual therapy, I offer CNM-inclusive relationship therapy. I use Emotionally Focused Therapy and an attachment-based lens to help partners feel safer, more seen, and more emotionally connected. We focus on shifting out of reactive cycles and into more secure, responsive ways of relating. I bring a warm, relational, trauma-informed approach that honors your wisdom and your goals. Together, we can explore what’s getting in the way, deepen your emotional insight, and create space for more authenticity, clarity, and intimacy in your life. When you feel safe and seen, amazing things can happen.

At different times in our lives, we may find ourselves challenged or feeling overwhelmed by life's demands, our relationships, our careers, our health, or transitions. It is during these challenges, that a trusting relationship with a counselor can give the dynamic support, to sort through our thinking, feeling, and patterns of behavior. Through this mindful work we may begin to see ourselves and our options in a new way. This offers the opportunity to grow and regain balance in our lives creating new strategies for a balanced life and conscious relationships. My approach is based in Mindfulness techniques, Somatic work, Neurophysiology and Brainspotting work. At times I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapies and DBT theory and technique. As I believe the foundation of all counseling relationships is in unconditional positive regard and respect, my work is lead by my clients.
