Therapists for college students near Nashville, TN
Hello, welcome to my practice. I have been a licensed social worker/therapist for 23 years! I have experience working with teenagers, young adults, and adults with anxiety, depression, and trauma.
Navigating college life can be overwhelming, and it’s okay to ask for help. Whether you're dealing with anxiety, relationship stress, academic pressure, or life transitions, I’m here to offer a supportive, non-judgmental space where you can explore your feelings and find practical ways to cope. I specialize in working with students from all walks of life, including first-generation and immigrant backgrounds, and offer therapy in both English and Spanish. My background includes a Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and a Master's in Divinity. My approach is collaborative, warm, and tailored to meet your unique needs, combining evidence-based methods like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with a deep respect for your personal values and experiences. I also offer a faith-friendly approach for those who seek spiritual integration in their healing journey. Together, we can work on building resilience, improving self-understanding, and finding balance as you navigate both your academic and personal life.
Licensed to offer therapy services in Virginia, Tennessee, and Michigan, Dr. Honeycutt is often sought out due to the advanced IFS (Level 3) training he received in 2010 under the model's founder, Dr. Richard Schwartz. With particular interest in how the ancient Judeo-Christian understanding of the psyche (soul) overlaps with modern theories of mental health, he has spoken on this subject at conferences, educational seminars, and university classrooms. Approaching work with clients from a Christian framework of psycho-spiritual health, Dr. Honeycutt combines modern-day techniques and psychological research with an ancient understanding of the human condition as created by God. Non-Christian clients who are interested in such an approach are also welcome. Sessions are typically offered online for those living outside the Lynchburg area.

Hello! I am Dr. Twila Worlock DNP PMHNP. Clients who experience the most benefit while working me are those who seek therapy because they are feeling stuck, like they've been living out a script that keeps repeating itself, and who want to make progress moving forward. If you've noticed dynamics within your family or in your past that keep repeating in your relationships, at work, or as barriers to your goals, then my therapeutic approach may be a helpful intervention. If you live in East Tennessee, we have the option of taking our session's outdoors for nature-based therapy and animal-assisted therapy. And if you are in South Carolina, we can meet online and may even be able to incorporate the horses via video! However we meet, I look forward to exploring your past with you to make sense of the present, for the possibility of a better future.
I earned my PsyD (Doctor of Psychology) degree at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology and I have worked in different settings including university/community counseling centers, dual diagnosis treatment centers, and psychiatric hospitals (Austen Riggs Center). I work from a psychoanalytic orientation. This approach emphasizes the importance of both past and present experiences, relationships, emotions, patterns of being, and the unconscious. While it is natural to want to move away from suffering, it is when we give it a voice that healing can begin. Though genetics can play a role in the development of psychiatric problems; symptoms are some of the ways our psyche and body deal with pain that has not been understood, contextualized, and articulated. My goal as a psychoanalytic therapist is to help my patients notice how their symptoms are not accidental experiences to dodge, but rather meaningful communications to explore. Only through this inquiry can patients tap into interpersonal and intrapersonal as well as conscious and unconscious phenomena that have shaped their life and continue to contribute to their suffering.
During our sessions together, I will support you in exploring the many parts of you and how they came to be. I will work with you to identify the negative messages connected to these parts of you. We will form a relationship with these parts and create a safe place for all of you to be seen, heard, and understood. In this safe place, you will heal yourself. Developing my own internal resources has helped me to move through some very difficult times as a member of the LGBTQ+ community. Using evidence based research, I provide care that values every part of you and respects where you came from. In those moments of pain and struggle and self-discovery, I will help you to choose yourself. I seek to create a safe and inclusive space for black-bodied individuals, first generation immigrants, LGBTQ+ folks, survivors of trauma, sex workers, and clients who are struggling with relationship and intimacy issues. My approach to mental health care is rooted in anti-oppressive and decolonizing frameworks. The treatment modalities that I use have been found to be effective across many cultures, ages, genders, and experiences. I am here to support my clients in rediscovering themselves, strengthening their mind-body connection, and living the life they have always wanted.
Pursuing higher education, whether starting college, returning after time away, or continuing into graduate school, can be exciting and rewarding. Yet it can also bring stress, uncertainty, and moments of self-doubt. Balancing academic expectations, relationships, and personal well-being isn’t easy, and many students feel pressure to manage it all on their own. At Christina Cares Counseling, LLC, I offer a compassionate, supportive space for adults navigating the unique challenges of college and graduate life. Together, we can work through anxiety, perfectionism, imposter syndrome, burnout, and the struggle to find balance and direction. I bring over 15 years of experience as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, independently licensed in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Tennessee. My goal is to help you reconnect with your strengths, build resilience, and find relief through honest conversation, understanding, and practical tools for growth. I also accept several insurance plans through Headway to make it easier to start therapy. These include: • Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Connecticut (in Connecticut) • Quest Behavioral Health (in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Tennessee) • Cigna (in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Tennessee) • Carelon Behavioral Health (in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Tennessee) • Aetna (in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Tennessee) • Ascension (SmartHealth) (in Tennessee) …with more insurance options coming soon. You don’t have to do this alone; healing and change happen through connection, and therapy can be a place to find both.

I also utilize existential counseling, and multicultural counseling. In addition to seeing clients in-person in Knoxville, I am also available online to all adult residents of TN for private pay. I believe therapy is a collaborative effort between the therapist and client. While I am a skilled and trained professional, I am not an expert of you or your life.
