Therapists for college students near Ann Arbor, MI
Therapy can be an opportunity to improve your insight into personal roadblocks and regain a sense of balance. My role is to accompany you during this process and help you navigate through life's challenges. You will find my approach to be genuine, warm, and person-centered. I have a special interest working with people who struggle with depression, anxiety, stress, and life changes. I am also particularly interested in working with young adults as they work on their development of identity and purpose. My goal is to support you and help strengthen your coping skills.
At Heartfelt Healing, I tend to connect most with students who are thoughtful, caring, and often hard on themselves. You might be the one others rely on, the responsible friend, the high achiever, the one who “has it together,” while quietly feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or unsure inside. Many of the students I work with are navigating big life shifts such as starting college, adjusting to independence, healing from a breakup, questioning relationships, or trying to find their footing in who they are becoming. Some are working through body image struggles, disordered eating patterns, family stress, or the pressure to meet expectations. Others simply feel stuck, disconnected, or exhausted from constantly overthinking. If you’re considering therapy but don’t have clear goals or the “right words” yet, that’s completely okay. You don’t need to have everything figured out before reaching out. Sometimes the first step is simply knowing something doesn’t feel quite right and being open to exploring it in a supportive, nonjudgmental space. We can figure the rest out together.

“The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.” -Lao Tzu My name is Taibriana Wilkins. I am an African-American BIPOC woman, using she/her/ella pronouns. My love of cultures, exploration and language encouraged me to travel and live abroad. Before studying to be a clinical social worker and therapist, I spent a few years in Buenos Aires, Argentina and Hyogo prefecture, Japan working as an English Foreign Language teacher. I was able to improve my language skills, eat delicious food, and explore. One of the major themes I gained from living abroad and living in Michigan is the ability to manage and adjust to transitions. Life is full of transitions, whether it be adjusting to an unfamiliar environment, readjusting to a familiar environment, a new position, changes in family dynamics and social life, it is important to practice skills related to connecting with yourself and others. I provide a non-judgmental space for YOU to play and explore life while in therapy. To reflect on the past and consider the future, it is valuable to be grounded in the present. When we play, we are in the present moment. I am warm, encouraging, direct and enjoy sharing a laugh. Attending and engaging in therapy can provoke a host of emotional responses. Developing a positive relationship between YOU the client and myself the therapist is important for exploration and when practicing vulnerability. In session, YOU may seek insight into everyday situations, examine patterns of behavior, and practice coping skills to navigate difficult moments. I specialize in serving teens/adolescents, college students, young adults, and clients of marginalized identities including Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC), International students, immigrants, and LGBTQIAS2+ populations. I have practiced at a Lansing area community center and at Michigan State University. Topics of focus in session surround navigating anxiety, depression, self-esteem, time management skills, family dynamics, and identity formation.

Thank you for taking the essential step of seeking help. My passion for mental health and wellness consists of the demystifying stigma associated with mental health, symptom management, healthy living, healing, and resiliency. I believe in the whole person’s treatment, so I enjoy collaborating with additional professionals to provide the most optimal treatment and recovery for individuals receiving support from me. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker trained in diverse treatment modalities, including psychotherapy, trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy - suicide prevention. I use several skills and client collaboration to tailor treatment. I have used my skills to provide treatment for specialty populations, including LGBTQ, Trauma, Anxiety, BIPOC, Co-Occurring, and Problem Sexual Behavior. I currently offer telehealth, individual, couples, and family therapy. As well as clinical supervision, training, and consultations for professionals and organizations.
I graduated from Grand Rapids Theological Seminary in 2022 with a M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, and from Kuyper College in 2011 with a double major in Bible & Theology and Youth Ministry. My story is a tale of two worlds. I grew up in the country of Haiti, while my adult years have been spent in West Michigan. Both the contrasts and similarities between the two have influenced the way I view the world. And just as my experiences shaped who I am today, the same is true for you. We are all journeying through life, and it is a privilege for me to be welcomed into your story. Of all the people I have met in all the locations I have traveled to, I have found the following to be true: though each story is unique, everyone faces challenges, and everyone has the need to be heard, to be valued, and to be loved. Outside of working as a counselor, most of my time is spent with my family. My greatest joy is spending time with my wife and two kids. We enjoy playing games, reading books, building Legos, playing pretend with dolls and other toys, spending time outside, and being goofy together. My favorite personal pastime is reading, especially the fantasy genre. One reason why I enjoy counseling is because I am given the opportunity to enter the story of each person and journey through it together. My Approach I care deeply about all people and aim to demonstrate that by valuing who you are as an individual and listening attentively to your story. I view counseling as a collaborate process in which we work together to meet your unique needs. There is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to counseling, and so I prefer an eclectic approach. Some I have found effective are internal family systems, cognitive-behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, narrative therapy, and mindfulness-based approaches—though I am always open to discovering others to meet your needs more effectively. I place immense value on the counseling relationship, approaching it from a person-centered perspective, and focus early sessions on building rapport. When engaging with children in I also incorporate developmentally appropriate play and art techniques. What you can expect Trusting people is difficult, especially when it comes to the vulnerable areas of our lives where pain and suffering exist. So, you can expect early sessions to focus on building a foundation of mutual trust. Together we will create an environment of safety where you are free to be and express who you are. I will give you my full, nonjudgmental attention as you share your story. Then we will collaboratively explore your needs, set goals, and problem-solve as we journey towards hope and healing.
Establishing a strong working relationship is essential to positive therapeutic outcomes. I firmly believe that therapy works best when you match well on a personal level. Adjusting to college is hard. There's a lot of pressure to do well academically, socially, personally...and it can be helpful to have an unbiased person to vent to and talk about what you're struggling with. I specialize in treating individuals struggling with primary and secondary trauma. I use a multifaceted approach to therapy to meet my clients where they are and to suit their individual needs, whether trauma is a main focus or not.

“Anything that’s human is mentionable, and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable. When we can talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming, less upsetting, and less scary. The people we trust with that important talk can help us know that we are not alone.” -Fred Rogers Our experiences throughout life shape us in many ways. I work with individuals to empower them to better understand themselves, and the ways in which they manage life’s hardships, as stress and trauma are often unavoidable experiences of life. I am a trauma-focused mental health therapist, who believes that everyone has their own unique strengths for surviving and thriving through life’s ups and downs. My approach to therapy is strengths-based and attachment-focused. I value building a therapeutic alliance, and my intention is to have each individual feel heard and supported in our time together. I strive to promote a healing environment using active listening, sensitivity, and non-judgmental compassion for everyone’s unique situation.
