Congratulations on taking the first step in your mental health journey. I am looking forward to meeting you! I am a board certified Adult/Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist and Pediatrician. I specialize in combining psychotherapy with medication management, and utilizing a holistic approach with assessment of lifestyle factors and physical health that integrates my expertise as a pediatrician. I treat a wide range of conditions with particular expertise in treating Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), depressive disorders, anxiety disorders, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), among others. I strive to create a safe and nurturing environment where clients feel heard, understood, and valued. I have particular interest in addressing conflicts that arise from cultural, personal, and social identity struggles and providing a safe space to explore and empower clients to embrace their unique identities and build confidence through positive reinforcement and validation of one's experiences. I also provide support and skills for managing the pressures of academic performance, fostering independence, and career planning.
Do you ever feel weighed down by feelings of sadness or anxiety? Do those feelings make it difficult to find the motivation to get through the day and positively interact with others? Do they cause you to miss out on the joys of life, which in turn, intensifies those negative feelings? Maybe you feel like you're standing in quick sand. No matter how hard you try, you find that you're still stuck. I am here to help you uncover the tools to free yourself and forge a path towards healing. Hello, I am so happy you are here! I am Aliyah Mitchell, a licensed mental health counselor in New York State. I have experience working with individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation and self-harm. My goal is to provide a supportive and safe environment to every client that I work with, in order to assist them in working towards their therapeutic goals. I believe that the foundation of a good therapeutic relationship is trust. My first goal is to build rapport with you and create an environment where you feel comfortable sharing and expressing your feelings.
Many of the people I work with feel overwhelmed by anxiety, upsetting intrusive thoughts, or past emotional wounds that continue to affect their relationships, confidence, and sense of safety. They are ready for relief, connection, and to feel more in control of their lives. I help clients by providing specialized treatments for anxiety conditions, OCD, body-focused repetitive behaviors (BFRBs), perfectionism, and the deep echoes of trauma—from relational and intergenerational wounds to betrayal trauma. I believe therapy can help us grow, even through deep pain. My role is to help you approach yourself with curiosity and compassion while guiding you toward healing and meaningful change. If this feels like the right fit for you then let's connect.
My work in the field of counseling began in 1992 and I have been a clinician in practice for over 25 years. I specialize in helping clients work through trauma, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, and supporting them on their journey to improved balance in life. My therapeutic approach is person centered. I work closely with clients to help them connect with their values, gain personal insight, understanding and self-compassion. With a trauma-informed mindset, I strive to create a safe and therapeutic environment. This entails a blend of treatment interventions designed to best match individual needs. I draw inspiration from the work of colleagues like: Brene Brown, Bessel Van der Kolk, Gabor Mate, Alfred Adler, Carl Rogers, and Carl Jung. These individuals are leaders in the field of counseling and therapy. They are the inspiration that has helped build my foundation for an enduring and balanced practice. My counseling background includes work with adults, college students, children and families, couples, Military Personnel, Veterans, and their families, as well as disabled adults. In my current work, I focus on helping individuals rebuild a foundation from which to grow from. Because I am a firm believer in the power of yoga, self-reflection, and meditation; when appropriate, I weave Eastern Philosophies into treatment. For example, the body holds trauma in seven main body parts (pelvis, diaphragm, throat, jaw, hamstrings, shoulders, and neck). With the application of some yoga, meditation, and mindful attention, we can help the body release underlying trapped feelings so that healing can begin.
I’m a psychotherapist and trauma-focused yoga teacher with an approach grounded in psychoanalytic theory and practice. While I work with a wide variety of folks, I have a soft spot for artists and young adults. Although rooted in psychoanalysis, I practice eclectically, meaning I tailor our sessions to your individualized needs while offering a warm, attentive environment in which your experiences, feelings, and questions are explored. I place a strong emphasis on building a trusting therapeutic relationship with you so that we explore patterns shaped by past relationships and experiences to make room for greater authenticity and self-understanding. I don’t see psychotherapy as a way to fix or judge, but as a way to learn to approach ourselves with curiosity, and maybe even a little humor, whether this is through talk therapy, trauma-focused yoga, or a combination of the two.

College can be an exciting time, but it also comes with unique pressures: academic stress, big life decisions, changing relationships, and figuring out who you are and who you want to be. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure, you don’t have to go through it alone. I’m Erin C. Hayes, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Master of Science in Social Work from Columbia University. My passion is helping young women tap into their strengths, build confidence, and navigate challenges such as anxiety, depression, eating disorders, and other emotional or medical stressors. I often use Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which focuses on reshaping unhelpful thought patterns so you can feel more in control of your emotions and actions. I also integrate other approaches when they’re the right fit because therapy should feel personal, and not a one-size-fits-all. I believe our past experiences shape how we see ourselves, but they don’t have to define our future. In our work together, you’ll find a supportive, judgment-free space where you can be heard, gain clarity, and move forward with resilience and self-assurance. If you’re ready to explore your potential and create a future that feels true to you, I’d be honored to support you on that journey. <script src="https://thrivingcampus.com/verified.js?pid=41620"></script>
